Remote Python developer apprentices often encounter challenges such as limited face-to-face mentorship, managing time effectively, and staying motivated without in-person supervision. To overcome these, it's important to proactively communicate with mentors and peers through regular virtual meetings and collaborative platforms. Setting clear daily or weekly goals, maintaining a structured routine, and participating in online coding communities can also help apprentices stay engaged and on track with their learning and project responsibilities.

A Remote Python Developer Apprenticeship is a structured training program where aspiring Python developers work remotely while learning on the job. Apprentices typically gain hands-on experience by working on real-world projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. This pathway is ideal for those who want to learn Python development while enjoying the flexibility of remote work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer Apprentice, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer Apprentice, you need a solid understanding of Python programming, basic knowledge of software development principles, and a relevant educational background or bootcamp experience. Job description

Data Analytics Developer (Remote Eligible)
About Mathematica:
Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public- and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.
Mathematica offers our employees competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package, as well as the advantages of being 100 percent employee owned. As an employee stock owner, you will experience financial benefits of ESOP holdings that have increased in tandem with the company's growth and financial strength. You will also be part of an independent, employee-owned firm that is able to define and further our mission, enhance our quality and accountability, and steadily grow our financial strength.

At Mathematica, we take pride in our commitment to diversity. Building an inclusive culture that draws on the individual strengths of employees from different ethnic backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles, abilities, and experience is key to our success.
We are seeking an intellectually curious Data Analytics Developer in any of our locations who is passionate about using big data to answer research questions that influence decision making in U.S. health care policy. The ideal candidate will work in languages such as Python and SQL. Individuals with an interest in confronting the challenges of working with large, complex data sets, an interest in data manipulation and analysis, and a desire to become a subject matter expert in health care data are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
  • Working with large secondary data sources such as Medicare and Medicaid administrative claims data and survey data to effectively answer research questions about health care policy
  • Providing creating and best practice solutions for data processing optimization, commonly on cloud computing platforms
  • Ensuring data quality through all stages of data processing with rigorous quality control
  • Iteratively informing requirements and specifications, which will include articulating findings and working with researchers to adjust specifications and code as interim results are found

Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree with a strong academic record in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, public health, public administration, public policy, sociology, political science, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of programming experience in a professional or academic environment.
  • Programming experience using Python, SQL, SAS, R or Stata, or a similar data engineering or statistical language
  • Experience performing data pipelining or analytics using cloud computing platforms and services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and/or Databricks is strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work with others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Subject-matter knowledge in healthcare data preferred
  • Has the ability to pass a background investigation or security clearance for federally contracted project work; holding an active Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Enterprise User Administration (EUA) ID is desired.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $78,000 to $100,000. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
To apply, please submit cover letter, resume, location preferences, salary requirements, and code samples via our careers page. Please include a code sample (up to three) which best represents your current programming skills, preferably in Python or SQL. If you include a GitHub, please call out the specific samples you want to highlight. If you do not have code available in these preferred languages, please send a code sample in an alternate language.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, age, national origin, religion, orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state, or local protected class.
At Mathematica, we understand the importance of building relationships with colleagues. If you're not located near one of our offices but would like opportunities to meet up with co-workers, we offer coworking spaces where available. Ask your Talent Acquisition partner for more information about this opportunity and whether it's an option in your area.
Any offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check. Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo security clearance as a condition of working on the project. If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance. Additionally, if you participate in or complete the application process and are denied, Mathematica may choose to terminate your employment.
We take pride in our employees and in their commitment to excellence. We encourage staff to collaborate in developing creative solutions to difficult problems and to share the responsibility and enjoyment of carrying out complex projects. This collegial spirit has helped us earn our reputation for innovative and high-quality work.
