Job description

Lead AWS Cloud Platform Engineer (IaC / Automation / SRE)

Type: Contract (approx. 6 months) Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00am–5:00pm ET (Eastern Time) Location: Primarily Remote (U.S.-based). If you’re local to the DMV/Reston, some projects may require up to 1 day/week onsite. Pay (W2): USD $109.05/hr

JOB OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a hands-on AWS Engineer to help build, automate, and support a modern cloud platform as part of a major AWS migration program. This role is for a senior engineer who can provision AWS infrastructure with IaC and jump into production troubleshooting, log/metrics review, and root-cause analysis alongside application and architecture teams.

Important: “Lead” here means seniority/experience—it’s not a people-management role.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Provision and automate AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and policy-as-code practices
  • Provide production support: incident troubleshooting, log analysis, metrics review, and root-cause analysis (RCA)
  • Partner with application teams and architects to diagnose issues and stabilize workloads in production
  • Support ongoing on-prem to AWS migration, including containerized/EKS-based environments
  • Troubleshoot AWS networking/connectivity, security, and performance bottlenecks
  • Improve reliability and scalability using automation and SRE-style operational best practices
  • Support monitoring, upgrades/patching, capacity planning, and continuous platform improvements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years overall IT experience (senior/lead-level background)
  • 5+ years recent, hands-on AWS platform engineering/admin experience
    • AWS must have been your primary focus for the last 5 years
  • Strong experience provisioning AWS resources and supporting production environments
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot outages and perform RCA, including where/what to check in logs
  • Terraform (1+ year minimum) provisioning AWS infrastructure
  • Strong automation/scripting experience (including Bash)
  • Linux administration experience
  • Python automation experience (Lambda/Boto3 preferred)
  • Hands-on AWS experience with (at minimum): EC2 (required), VPC, subnets, IAM, security groups, S3, CloudWatch
  • At least one current AWS certification
  • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills

NICE TO HAVE

  • Kubernetes / containers, especially AWS EKS
  • SRE experience
  • CI/CD and DevOps tooling (Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Artifactory, Ansible, etc.)
  • CloudFormation and/or AWS CDK
  • Database troubleshooting experience
  • Exposure to AWS AI/ML services (Bedrock, SageMaker, Kendra, RAG solutions) — helpful for some project assignments
