Remote Public Health Inspector information

What is a remote public health inspector?

Remote Public Health Inspectors are professionals who assess and ensure compliance with public health regulations, usually by reviewing documentation, conducting virtual inspections, and providing guidance to businesses or facilities from a remote location. They play a crucial role in preventing the spread of disease, promoting sanitation, and ensuring safe practices in environments like restaurants, schools, and workplaces. By leveraging technology, they can monitor compliance, review records, and even conduct virtual site tours without being physically present, making it possible to maintain public health standards efficiently across wide geographic areas.

How does a remote public health inspector effectively conduct inspections and ensure compliance without being on-site?

Remote Public Health Inspectors leverage digital tools such as video conferencing, electronic document review, and remote monitoring systems to assess facilities and operations. They collaborate closely with on-site staff to guide virtual walkthroughs, review compliance documentation, and address potential health code violations. While remote inspections may present challenges like limited direct observation, inspectors mitigate these by requesting detailed records and utilizing checklists. Regular communication with facility managers and local health teams is essential for clarifying findings and recommending corrective actions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote public health inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Public Health Inspector, you need a solid background in public health, environmental science, and regulatory compliance, often supported by a relevant degree and state certification. Familiarity with digital inspection platforms, GIS mapping tools, and reporting software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate assessments, regulatory adherence, and effective public health protection, even when working remotely.

How do you become a remote public health inspector with no experience?

To become a remote public health inspector with no experience, you typically need a relevant educational background such as a degree in public health, environmental health, or a related field. Gaining certification, like the Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), can improve job prospects, and entry-level positions may require demonstrating knowledge of health codes and inspection procedures through training or coursework.

How much do remote public health inspectors make in the US?

Remote public health inspectors in the US typically earn between $50,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Salaries can vary based on the employer and specific responsibilities, with some roles offering additional benefits or flexible schedules.

Is there a demand for remote public health inspectors?

The demand for remote public health inspectors is growing as health agencies adopt telehealth and remote assessment tools, especially during public health emergencies. However, many inspection tasks still require on-site presence, so remote roles may be limited to consultation, data analysis, or reporting functions. Certification and experience in public health are essential for these positions.

What can you do with a remote public health inspector degree remotely?

A remote public health inspector degree can qualify you for roles involving remote consultation, policy development, and health program management. You may also work on data analysis, report writing, and virtual training related to public health standards, often requiring knowledge of health regulations and certification. These positions typically involve collaboration with local agencies or organizations via digital communication tools.

Job description

About the Firm

Our client is a well-established wealth management firm with a robust in-house tax practice, built through the acquisition of a large CPA firm and supported by its sister company. The firm is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join their professional team.

This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a production-focused environment and enjoys managing multiple client engagements with precision and autonomy.

About the Role

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in managing monthly client accounting engagements from start to finish, and prepares individual and business tax returns during busy season — giving this role real exposure to the firm’s in-house tax practice from day one.

This is a plug-and-play opportunity for an experienced professional who can independently own the monthly close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation, with a natural growth path into a Senior Accountant / Tax Senior role.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of monthly bookkeeping and accounting clients (up to 15–20 at capacity over time).

• Take each client engagement from start to finish on a monthly basis.

• Perform full-cycle accounting, including transaction coding, bank and credit card reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.

• Prepare and post adjusting journal entries and support month-end close processes.

• Prepare and finalize monthly financial statements.

• Review work when applicable and ensure accuracy of account classifications and reporting.

• Prepare individual and business tax returns during busy season.

• Communicate with clients as needed to gather documentation and clarify transactions (initially limited client-facing responsibility).

• Utilize QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online extensively as a power user.

Requirements

• 5+ years of accounting/tax experience, preferably within a public accounting environment (candidates with 8–10+ years are encouraged to apply).

• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and financial statement preparation.

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online required (power user level).

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines.

• Located in Eastern or Central time zone.

Benefits

• Compensation: $90,000–$150,000, depending on experience.

• Busy season bonus: Performance bonuses paid in June and December, based on individual and firm performance.

• Work arrangement: Remote or hybrid, depending on proximity to a firm office.

• Paid Time Off: Flexible/unlimited PTO.

• Retirement: 401(k) with company match.

• Health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

• Professional development: CPE / professional development budget.

• Growth path: A clear track toward a Senior Accountant / Tax Senior role within the firm’s in-house tax practice.

• Culture: A collaborative, team-oriented environment that values autonomy, precision, and professional growth.
