What is remote prompt engineering?

Remote prompt engineering is the practice of designing and refining prompts for AI language models, such as ChatGPT, while working from a remote location. Prompt engineers craft instructions or questions to optimize the model’s responses for specific tasks or applications. This role typically involves understanding both the capabilities and limitations of AI systems, as well as the needs of end users or clients. Remote prompt engineers collaborate online with teams and may work for tech companies, research organizations, or as independent contractors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote prompt engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Prompt Engineer, you need a strong background in natural language processing, programming (often Python), and an understanding of AI/ML concepts, typically supported by a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with large language models (like OpenAI's GPT), prompt optimization tools, and version control systems such as Git is common. Creativity, problem-solving, and strong written communication are vital soft skills for designing effective prompts and collaborating remotely. These skills ensure the development of high-performing AI solutions and seamless teamwork in distributed environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote prompt engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote prompt engineers often face challenges related to communication and collaboration, especially when working across time zones and with interdisciplinary teams. Staying updated on rapidly evolving AI technologies and understanding nuanced user requirements can also be demanding. To address these, prompt engineers can leverage collaborative tools, maintain clear documentation, and participate in regular team syncs. Building a habit of continuous learning and engaging in knowledge-sharing sessions helps keep skills relevant and fosters a sense of connection despite remote work.

Job description

Job Title: Senior AWS GenAI & Cloud Solutions Architect
Focus: AWS Bedrock | Generative AI | Startup POCs
Location:
Remote (US-based preferred)
Employment Type: Full-time / Contract / Consulting (flexible)

About the Role

AES is launching and scaling a startup-focused innovation business unit, and we are looking for senior AWS Cloud Architects with deep Generative AI experience, particularly around AWS Bedrock(‘Amazon Bedrock Agents’ and ‘Amazon Bedrock AgentCore’) and modern AI-enabled cloud architectures.

Our clients are innovative startups, ranging from seed-funded through Series C, who are actively experimenting with GenAI to build new products, accelerate development, and validate ideas quickly. These clients need architects who can design, prototype, and operationalize GenAI solutions in weeks, not months.

This role is ideal for architects who enjoy:

  • Building GenAI proofs of concept (POCs) and MVPs
  • Working hands-on with AWS Bedrock and foundation models
  • Partnering directly with startup founders, CTOs, and product leaders
  • Turning early ideas into real, testable AI-driven solutions

About AES

AES is a 22-year-old niche boutique consulting firm with a strong history of delivering high-quality technology solutions for large enterprise customers.

Building on this foundation, AES has launched a dedicated startup and innovation-focused business unit. This group combines startup agility and experimentation with enterprise-grade delivery discipline.

You get:

  • Startup-style work and innovation
  • Exposure to multiple high-growth startups
  • The stability and credibility of a seasoned consulting firm

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and deliver Generative AI solutions using AWS Bedrock
  • Design and implement GenAI POCs, pilots, and MVPs for startup clients
  • Work with foundation models (Claude, Titan, Llama, etc.) via Bedrock
  • Build RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
  • Design scalable GenAI platforms with:
    • Vector databases
    • Embeddings pipelines
    • Secure data ingestion layers
  • Integrate GenAI solutions into cloud-native and containerized architectures
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data teams
  • Evaluate new AWS AI services and recommend best-fit solutions
  • Translate ambiguous product ideas into working GenAI systems

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS Bedrock (‘Amazon Bedrock Agents’ and ‘Amazon Bedrock AgentCore’ )
  • Deep understanding of GenAI architectures and design patterns
  • Experience with:
    • Prompt engineering
    • Model orchestration
    • Guardrails, security, and governance for GenAI
  • Containerization and orchestration:
    • Docker
    • Kubernetes (EKS)
    • ECS / Fargate
  • Cloud-native AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / CloudFormation)

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in cloud architecture or advanced cloud engineering
  • Demonstrated experience delivering GenAI POCs or production solutions
  • Strong AWS foundation with Solutions Architect–level expertise
  • Experience working in fast-paced, startup or innovation environments
  • Ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • AWS Certifications - Solutions Architect – Professional (Required)
  • Generative AI Developer – Professional (Nice to have)

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Work on cutting-edge GenAI initiatives across multiple startups
  • High ownership and hands-on problem solving
  • Minimal bureaucracy, maximum experimentation
  • Opportunity to influence early product and platform decisions
  • Backed by a company with 22 years of delivery credibility

Who Should Apply

This role is perfect for:

  • Senior AWS architects moving deeper into GenAI
  • Cloud professionals excited by Bedrock, RAG, and AI platforms
  • Architects who want startup impact without startup risk
  • Consultants who enjoy POCs, innovation, and fast execution
