Waldron Engineering & Construction, Inc. is a consulting engineering and construction management firm specializing in the design, engineering, construction, commissioning and testing of energy generation and utility distribution facilities. Founded in 1992, we have over thirty years of experience delivering comprehensive electrical and thermal energy solutions to premier clients in the higher education, health care, pharmaceutical research, military facility, and heavy industrial market spaces.

The Opportunity

Waldron is seeking an Estimator / Pre-Construction Coordinator with approximately 10 years of experience in the construction industry. Primary job duties are to lead the company’s estimating efforts to support Waldron’s projects and business development. The successful candidate will be assigned primarily to Waldron’s home office in Exeter, NH. Some travel to remote project sites with overnight stays will be required. Experience estimating multiple trade disciplines is required. Industrial construction estimating, P6 scheduling, proposal writing, contract negotiation, and conceptual estimating experience are a plus. Pay and ultimate job title are commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Full responsibility for complete estimates for assigned projects directly, through subordinate personnel, and with fellow teammates.
  • Perform both conceptual and contractable estimating.
  • Develop detailed and accurately written proposals.
  • Identify and qualify subcontractors and vendors to support bidding and pre-construction efforts.
  • Develop complete bid packages and scopes of work for subcontractors.
  • Perform proposal evaluations and make selection recommendations for subcontracts and vendors.
  • Lead bid and proposal reviews for company executives.
  • Identify risk in projects and present mitigation solutions.
  • Lead turnover meetings to operations for awarded projects.
  • Support business development efforts.
  • Assist in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
  • Support internal and external clients with pricing support and evaluation as part of project change management.
  • Seek, and be able to communicate understanding of federal, state, local regulations, and permit requirements as applicable to projects.
  • Understand and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision and technical support to all subordinates.
  • Assist with or perform hiring and personnel management.
  • Ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain high professional and construction ethics.

Skills / Experience / Training Required

  • BS in Engineering discipline or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
  • Estimating knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to interpret complex design documents to support pre-construction efforts.
  • Have the experience to take low definition, high-level designs and define scope for conceptual and schematic estimating.
  • Be able to identify and use the appropriate estimating methodology for the level of design definition.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Prompt and accurate judgement.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments to support company goals.
  • Solution oriented.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, etc.
  • Excellent communication, organization, supervisory, interpersonal, and planning skills.
  • Ability and willingness to take on new challenges and meet rigorous bid schedules.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations & recommend corrective measures.
  • High degree of experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based personal computers and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience and proficiency using on-screen takeoff software a plus.
  • Experience using published industry estimating data (RS Means, Richardson, etc.) a plus.
  • Proficiency with P6 is a plus.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support project managers and construction managers during project execution.
  • Perform directed assignments independently with minimal supervision.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
  • Update and maintain historical data for estimating and subcontractor contacts.
  • Attend design and constructability reviews to support project design development.
  • Maintain necessary licensing/training requirements.
  • Other construction management and engineering support duties as assigned.
  • Position will require occasional travel to remote project sites; some requiring overnight stays.
  • Projects are typically industrial in nature and may require work inside power plants, food processing areas, manufacturing areas, etc.
  • Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Some climbing, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
