Technical Project Manager - Cybersecurity Consulting

Location: United States - Remote

Employment Type: 1 year contract

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Project Manager for a 1 year contract role supporting a Cybersecurity Consulting client who can turn a signed consulting agreement into a controlled, well-scheduled, accurately billed engagement. This individual will be equally comfortable building project and billing models in Excel, leading client status calls, coordinating consultants, and resolving questions or disagreements related to scope, timing, deliverables, or invoicing.
The ideal candidate combines operational rigor, cybersecurity fluency, sound judgment, and clear communication. They anticipate problems, protect scope and project margin, and move work forward independently without requiring task-by-task direction.
Key Responsibilities

  • Own cybersecurity consulting engagements from internal handoff and client kickoff through scheduling, delivery, acceptance, billing, and closeout.
  • Build and maintain project trackers and financial controls in Excel using formulas, structured tables, lookups, WORKDAY, SUMIFS, and related functions. This is analytical project control-not data entry.
  • Translate statements of work, deliverables, dependencies, and payment schedules into executable project plans with clear owners, dates, milestones, and billing triggers.
  • Manage milestone billing and contract mechanics, including invoice dates tied to deliverable dates, payment schedules, scope reductions, credits, and reconciliation between contracted and delivered work.
  • Coordinate consultant schedules and capacity across a small billable team, resolving resource conflicts and balancing client commitments, utilization, skills, and deadlines.
  • Lead client-facing project communications, including kickoff and status meetings, schedule changes, deliverable coordination, risk escalation, and written follow-up.
  • Maintain a clear, fact-based position when clients dispute scope, timing, acceptance, or billing while preserving the client relationship and escalating appropriately.
  • Identify scope creep early, document the impact, and convert out-of-scope requests into approved change orders before work proceeds.
  • Track testing progress, findings workflows, report review, retesting, and remediation follow-up with sufficient cybersecurity fluency to identify risks and ask the right questions.
  • Safeguard confidential client vulnerability information as well as internal pricing, utilization, cost, and margin data.
  • Improve project-management practices, templates, dashboards, workflows, and cross-functional handoffs across consulting, sales, operations, and finance.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated project-management experience coordinating multiple concurrent, deadline-driven engagements with interdependent schedules and deliverables.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including nested formulas, structured tables and references, lookup functions, WORKDAY, SUMIFS, date logic, reconciliation, and error checking.
  • Practical command of milestone billing and contract mechanics, including payment schedules, deliverable-based invoice dates, partial or reduced scope, change orders, and billing reconciliation.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating capacity for a small team of consultants or other specialized professionals.
  • Excellent client-facing written and verbal communication skills, including the judgment and composure to defend a well-supported position during a dispute.
  • Cybersecurity domain literacy across offensive or defensive work, with familiarity with common testing or assessment types, findings, evidence, remediation, and severity ratings.
  • Strong scope discipline and the ability to distinguish clarification from expansion, quantify impact, and initiate a change order.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous problems and drive work independently without task-by-task supervision.
  • High discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive vulnerability data, client information, and internal pricing and margin figures.

Preferred Qualifications / Strong Pluses

  • Experience with Autotask or another PSA/CRM platform such as ConnectWise, ServiceNow, or Salesforce.
  • Experience with Microsoft Planner or another work-management platform such as Jira, Asana, or Monday.com.
  • Experience with HubSpot or comparable sales-pipeline tooling.
  • Broad Microsoft 365 fluency, especially SharePoint, Lists, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Professional-services or consulting project-management experience in a billable environment.
  • Experience with PlexTrac or a similar security reporting platform, including user administration.

Nice to Have

  • Power Automate and/or Power BI experience.
  • Subcontractor coordination experience.
  • PMP certification or an equivalent project-management credential.

Why Join the Client?
Project management is not an administrative layer-it is central to delivering technically complex work successfully, protecting the client experience, and operating a healthy consulting business.
In this role, you will work closely with experienced security consultants, business leaders, sales, and operations. Your judgment will directly influence delivery quality, consultant effectiveness, billing accuracy, project margin, and client trust.
What You Can Expect

  • Remote-first work environment
  • Meaningful ownership and autonomy
  • Varied cybersecurity consulting engagements
  • Collaboration with experienced technical and business professionals
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Opportunities to improve the systems and processes behind client delivery
