What is a remote print graphic designer?

A Remote Print Graphic Designer is a creative professional who designs visual materials for print, such as brochures, posters, packaging, and advertisements, while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They use graphic design software to create layouts, select colors, and arrange images and text to communicate messages effectively. These designers collaborate with clients and team members virtually, delivering files in formats suitable for printing. Remote work allows them flexibility and access to clients or employers from anywhere.

How does a remote print graphic designer typically collaborate with clients and team members to ensure design consistency and project alignment?

As a Remote Print Graphic Designer, collaboration often happens through virtual meetings, shared project management tools, and cloud-based design platforms. Clear communication is crucial to understand client expectations and receive timely feedback. You’ll regularly present drafts, incorporate revisions, and coordinate with copywriters, marketing teams, or printers to ensure that final designs meet brand guidelines and project objectives. Staying organized and proactive in communication helps maintain consistency and ensures smooth workflow across different time zones and teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote print graphic designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Print Graphic Designer, you need a solid background in visual design principles, typography, and layout, often demonstrated through a degree in graphic design or a strong portfolio. Proficiency with industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and experience preparing files for various print processes are essential. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and meeting deadlines. These abilities ensure high-quality, print-ready designs and effective teamwork, even when working independently from different locations.

Job description

About FieldWrk & Our Mission
FieldWrk is a branding and marketing agency dedicated to serving the essential industries that build and support our society. We exist to help hardworking people and companies reach their full potential.
Partnering with companies in civil construction, design, engineering, waste management, energy infrastructure, mining, and other markets, we help our clients stand out and scale their business through branding, storytelling, and marketing that doesn't just look good, but actually wrks.
Our mission to help hardworking people reach their full potential starts with our team. We bring together branding and marketing experts who care deeply about the industries we serve, and invest in developing their talents through collaboration, mentorship, and a team culture unlike any other.
About This Role & Its Impact:
As a Graphic Designer at FieldWrk, you'll help translate our clients' brands into practical, usable systems by creating final brand assets, templates, guidelines, and other tools their teams can easily use. We think of these as brand operating systems: thoughtful, well-built resources that help our clients consistently put their brands into practice.
You'll be responsible for creating highly polished design work across brand, digital, print, sales, and recruiting materials. While you'll contribute to a range of creative projects, a significant portion of this role is focused on typography, layout, and information hierarchy - taking content and turning it into clear, compelling, well-designed communications.
This is a fast-moving role for a designer who can manage multiple projects at once, context-switching without losing momentum, and quickly get up to speed on new clients, industries, and assignments. You'll need to be equally comfortable thinking critically about a design problem and rolling up your sleeves to execute it. You'll often move between different clients, deliverables, and stages of work throughout the day, so strong judgment, organization, and adaptability are essential.
We're looking for someone with a "get it done, and do it well" mindset: resourceful, accountable, quick to learn, and committed to producing excellent work even when timelines are tight or priorities change.
Key Responsibilities
  • Produce thoughtful, highly polished design work that meets FieldWrk's creative standards, client objectives, and project deadlines.
  • Translate complex or content-heavy information into clear, compelling designs with exceptional typography, hierarchy, spacing, and composition.
  • Manage multiple active projects across different clients and deliverable types, context switching and reprioritizing as needed without sacrificing quality, organization, or momentum.
  • Take ownership of assignments from brief through final production - quickly learning the client, industry, audience, and project requirements; identifying what matters; asking smart questions; and proactively moving the work forward.
  • Think critically about creative briefs and feedback rather than simply executing instructions. Identify problems, recommend thoughtful solutions, and know when to explore further versus when to make a decision and execute.
  • Collaborate closely with creative and project teams, clearly articulating design decisions and incorporating feedback quickly and thoughtfully.
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail and organized, production-ready files across digital and print deliverables.

Types of Work
While projects vary, a significant portion of this role involves typography, layout, and information hierarchy, including but not limited to:
    • Presentation decks, brand guidelines, RFPs, proposals, reports, brochures, sales materials, recruiting materials, and other content-heavy communications
    • Digital graphics, including social media, paid ads, icons, illustrations, simple motion graphics, and digital OOH
    • Print and environmental deliverables, including stationery, event materials, banners, collateral, and OOH
    • Visual identity support, including mood boards, logos, typography, color systems, ancillary graphics, templates, and mockups
    • Creative campaign support for employer branding, business development, and recruiting campaigns

Requirements
The right designer for this role has:
    • Exceptional typography and layout skills. You have a sophisticated understanding of type hierarchy, grids, spacing, composition, information architecture, and visual pacing. This is a core requirement of the role.
    • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
    • Very strong proficiency in Figma and collaborative Figma workflows. Comfortability learning and using features such as components, tokens, and Figma Motion.
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent typography, layout, brand application, and execution across a variety of formats.
    • Strong visual judgment and design fundamentals, with the ability to apply brand systems thoughtfully and consistently across different deliverables and channels.
    • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. You can interpret a brief, identify what matters, recognize when something isn't working, and determine a path forward.
    • The ability to work quickly without becoming careless, balancing craft, efficiency, attention to detail, and the needs of the project.
    • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-moving, remote environment.
    • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, monday.com or similar project-management software, and Slack or similar communication tools.
    • Eagerness to collaborate and give/receive feedback with grace
    • Largely available to work within CST hours (9 AM-5 PM CT)
    • Strong desire to make a positive impact through design for hardworking / construction industries
How you work:
  • You're a quick learner and comfortable with context switching. You can enter an unfamiliar project, client, or industry, absorb information quickly, and become productive without needing everything spelled out for you. Moving between different clients, projects, and types of work doesn't derail you.
  • You have a "get it done, do it well" mentality. You care deeply about craft while understanding that great agency work also requires speed, resourcefulness, sound judgment, and follow-through.
  • You think before you design. You consider the audience, objective, content, and constraints - not just aesthetics - and use critical thinking to arrive at smart design solutions.
  • You take ownership. When you encounter a problem, your instinct is to investigate, ask the right questions, propose a solution, and move the work forward rather than wait for someone else to tell you what to do.
  • You have high standards without being precious. You notice the details and want the work to be excellent, while remaining receptive to feedback, adapting quickly, and knowing when the work is ready to move forward.
  • You're dependable and collaborative. Your team can trust you to communicate proactively, manage your commitments, raise concerns early, and contribute positively to a fast-moving remote team.
  • You understand that working at an early-stage company sometimes means wearing multiple hats and adapting as the needs of the business evolve.

Our Approach to AI
At FieldWrk, AI is a design assistant - not the designer. We use it to explore visual directions, generate references, refine presentations, and speed up production tasks so we can focus on concept, craft, and execution.
Designers are expected to use AI intentionally and critically. Every visual must be shaped by your eye, judgment, and understanding of the brand. Submitting unedited AI-generated visuals, relying on AI for concept development, or skipping the thinking behind the work is not acceptable.
AI Submission Note* AI is a great tool that can help structure thoughts, and we know it can provide complete responses to job postings. For this application, your final submission must written in your own words and voice.
Benefits
Our mission to help hardworking people reach their full potential starts with our team. We bring together branding and marketing experts who care deeply about the industries we serve, and invest in developing their talents through collaboration, mentorship, benefits, and a team culture unlike any other.
  • Health insurance (United) - FieldWrk covers 85% for full-time employees, 50% for families + optional HSA match

  • Flexible PTO policy - We encourage everyone to take 2-3 weeks off per year, outside of our standard company holidays

  • 401k / retirement plans - Available after three months of employment
  • Paid parental leave
  • Dirty boots - see really cool massive earthwork, demolition, mining, and construction projects
