How does a Remote Power System Study Engineer typically collaborate with utilities and project teams while working offsite?

As a Remote Power System Study Engineer, collaboration is primarily achieved through virtual meetings, shared technical documentation, and cloud-based modeling tools. You'll regularly interact with utility clients, project managers, and fellow engineers to discuss study requirements, review system models, and present findings. Effective communication and proactive scheduling are essential to ensure alignment on project goals and timely delivery of analyses, especially when working across different time zones. Building strong remote relationships and being adaptable with digital collaboration platforms are key to success in this environment.

What does a Remote Power System Study Engineer do?

A Remote Power System Study Engineer is responsible for analyzing and evaluating electrical power systems from a remote location. Their work involves performing studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and stability assessments to ensure the reliable and safe operation of power systems. They use specialized software to model electrical networks and identify potential issues or improvements. By working remotely, they collaborate with clients and teams through digital tools to deliver technical reports and solutions for projects in industries like utilities, manufacturing, and renewable energy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Power System Study Engineer, and why are they important?

Job description

At IUNU (“you knew”), our mission is to deliver confidence at scale to the commercial greenhouse industry. We built LUNA, a computer vision platform that autonomously tracks plant development to turn visual data into high-value decisions. Deployed in over 15 countries, our technology empowers growers with critical insights like yield forecasting and pest detection to drive operational efficiency and reduce waste. We are looking for a Staff Engineer who is passionate about applying their technical expertise to solve real-world problems and build a more sustainable future for agriculture.
About the Role:
As a full-stack Senior or Staff Software Engineer at IUNU, you will play a foundational role in shaping our long-term architecture while remaining deeply hands-on. We are looking for a product-minded builder who thrives on autonomy and ownership. You will collaborate across engineering, product, and design to build scalable, reliable systems that power our core platforms, always keeping the experience of our growers in mind.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and scale the services, APIs, and front-end applications that power IUNU’s platform and partner interfaces.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on system architecture, long-term vision, and team best practices across both backend logic and frontend user experience.
  • Lead the delivery of high-impact initiatives end-to-end, from requirements gathering to rollout, with a focus on quality and timeliness.
  • Work closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to translate complex horticultural, environmental, and business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Build robust, fault-tolerant systems capable of processing high-dimension data in distributed environments.
  • Drive adoption of best practices across the engineering org, including testing, observability, automation, and CI/CD.
  • Mentor and support engineers on the team, raising the technical bar and fostering growth.
  • Operate services in production with high availability, leveraging monitoring and observability tools to ensure reliability for our growers.
  • Balance hands-on execution with architectural decision-making, ensuring velocity and long-term maintainability.

Requirements:
  • Extensive professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years at a Senior+ level.
  • Expert fluency in Typescript and SQL.
  • Extensive experience with React, Next.JS, Node.JS, or other modern web frameworks.
  • Experience in mobile app development including React Native or other mobile frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success designing and leading the delivery of robust, scalable systems from concept to production.
  • Expertise in mapping complex real-world logic into efficient data structures and algorithmic models that scale with high-dimension data.
  • Proficiency in translating business goals into clear technical scope for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Dedication to shipping secure, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Extensive experience operating cloud-native infrastructure (containers, storage, networking, deployment) with observability and monitoring tools to ensure high service availability.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising team standards through best practices.
  • Excellent communicator, comfortable collaborating in distributed teams.
  • High ownership mindset, bias for action, and ability to thrive in complex problem spaces.

Desired:
  • Hands-on experience with the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem.
  • Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB.
  • Experience with Python in a data pipeline context.
  • Experience with language models and building agentic applications.

Diversity
At IUNU, we’re committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment. We are dedicated to the happiness and success of all of our employees, and strive to foster a workplace in which individual differences are recognized, appreciated, nurtured, and respected. Diversity is important, and we strongly encourage people of all identities and backgrounds to confidently apply for a job with us if this is a role that interests and excites you. We want you to feel comfortable bringing your whole self to work with you, with all of your talents and strengths.
