What is a Remote Power Query specialist?

A Remote Power Query specialist is a professional who works from a remote location and is skilled in using Microsoft Power Query, a data connection technology that helps users discover, connect, combine, and refine data across a wide variety of sources. These specialists typically assist organizations in automating data preparation and transformation tasks for business intelligence and reporting. Their expertise allows businesses to streamline data workflows, improve data accuracy, and save time by creating efficient data models and queries without needing in-person support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Power Query specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Power Query Specialist, you need advanced knowledge of data analysis, Power Query (M language), and data transformation concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Excel, and other data visualization or ETL tools, along with relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, is typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and clear communication are vital soft skills for understanding client needs and delivering accurate data solutions remotely. These skills and qualifications ensure efficient data management, enable effective remote collaboration, and drive insightful business decisions.

Job description

About the role and team

Leading at Uber means setting direction in motion, not waiting for perfect conditions. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical anchor for the foundational systems that move the world - from building the next generation of orchestration platforms to architecting the stacks that power our global applications. Our mission is to make transportation as reliable as running water, and we need technical powerhouses to build the dependable, high-performance foundation that supports that vision.

This is a role for a proven, large-scale systems thinker who thrives in high-stakes environments. You will navigate the "messy" reality of complex infrastructures spanning global data centers and multiple cloud providers, supporting a diverse variety of workloads. You'll need to make smart decisions with imperfect information and own the outcomes of global architectural choices. If you lead with clarity, build with heart, and are motivated by the challenge of peak efficiency at unparalleled scale - this is where you'll make your mark.

Rate of Pay:                 $264,514 to $284,000 per year

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits. More details can be found at the following link https://www.uber.com/careers/benefits.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, and test software applications.
  • Design, develop, and/or test software applications using company technology stack.
  • Set the long-term technical direction for key investment areas, such as retrieval, ranking, and query understanding.
  • Evaluate and apply emerging technologies like generative AI and advanced deep learning to create novel solutions.
  • Champion a high bar for scientific rigor, engineering best practices, and overall machine learning quality across all projects.
  • Provide expert technical mentorship and leadership to a team of machine learning engineers and scientists.
  • Offer guidance on advanced methodologies, including hybrid Machine Learning/LLM approaches, fine-tuning, and multi-LLM ensemble frameworks.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • May Telecommute.

Basic Qualifications

  • Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or related field, followed by 5 years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in job offered or in a related occupation.
  • Position requires:
    • 5 years of experience in developing and deploying machine learning models and algorithms in production environments;
    • Experience in machine learning  system architecture and design;
    • Machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and modern deep learning approaches;
    • Programming skills in Python and Java, for machine learning deployment;
    • Experience in big data framework including Spark or Hadoop;
    • Algorithms and data structures;
    • MLOps such as model evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and system optimization;
    • Familiar with database including SQL, MySQL, or Presto.

Ready to Ride?

This isn't the kind of place where you follow a playbook - it's where you help write one. If you're driven by impact, energized by challenge, and ready to shape how the world moves - we'd love to hear from you.
