What is a Remote Power Query specialist?

A Remote Power Query specialist is a professional who works from a remote location and is skilled in using Microsoft Power Query, a data connection technology that helps users discover, connect, combine, and refine data across a wide variety of sources. These specialists typically assist organizations in automating data preparation and transformation tasks for business intelligence and reporting. Their expertise allows businesses to streamline data workflows, improve data accuracy, and save time by creating efficient data models and queries without needing in-person support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Power Query specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Power Query Specialist, you need advanced knowledge of data analysis, Power Query (M language), and data transformation concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Excel, and other data visualization or ETL tools, along with relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, is typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and clear communication are vital soft skills for understanding client needs and delivering accurate data solutions remotely. These skills and qualifications ensure efficient data management, enable effective remote collaboration, and drive insightful business decisions.

What are the typical challenges faced by Remote Power Query professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Power Query professionals often encounter challenges related to data connectivity, especially when integrating multiple data sources across different environments. Ensuring consistent data refreshes and troubleshooting connection issues can require creative problem-solving. Effective communication with team members and data owners is key to resolving discrepancies and clarifying requirements. Maintaining documentation and using version control for queries help streamline collaboration and minimize errors while working remotely.

Job description

Senior Technical Product Marketing Manager

Product Marketing    Couchbase

Location: Remote (US) or Raleigh, NC

Full-time

Reports to: VP, Product Marketing

About Couchbase

Couchbase is the operational data platform for AI - a scalable foundation for enterprise operational, analytical, mobile, and AI workloads that replaces fragmented legacy infrastructure and data services. We help the world's most demanding organizations power peak digital experiences, harness AI, and scale globally, all with less risk and lower total cost of ownership.

Our customers count on us for greater than 99.999% availability and sub-millisecond latency, and 53% of Couchbase customers have realized a greater than 50% reduction in total cost of ownership. Available as a fully managed cloud service (Capella) and self-managed software, Couchbase is where operational data, search, analytics, mobile/edge, and AI come together on a single platform.

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Technical Product Marketing Manager to be the technical storyteller for the Couchbase platform. You'll translate deep product capability into differentiated narratives, proof, and enablement for technical audiences - developers, architects, DBAs, and platform teams - and arm our field with the demos, content, and competitive ammunition they need to win.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable in an architecture diagram, a query console, and on stage. You'll partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Sales Engineering, and Developer Relations, and play a central role in product launches and go-to-market motions across our portfolio.

What You'll Do
  • Own the technical narrative. Turn complex platform capabilities - distributed architecture, performance, scale, AI/vector search, mobile/edge sync - into clear, differentiated positioning and messaging for technical buyers and influencers.
  • Create technical content. Produce solution briefs, reference architectures, whitepapers, benchmark and TCO validations, blog posts, and technical FAQs that make the case with evidence, not adjectives.
  • Build demos and proof points. Develop and maintain compelling product demos and hands-on proof assets; partner with Field Engineering on POC playbooks and enablement.
  • Drive competitive intelligence. Run hands-on technical teardowns of competing databases and data platforms; distill findings into battlecards, win themes, and objection handling.
  • Enable the field. Equip Sales and Sales Engineering with the technical assets, talk tracks, and training to qualify and advance opportunities.
  • Be a technical spokesperson. Represent Couchbase in webinars, conferences, developer communities, and analyst briefings; make technical audiences believe.
  • Partner on launches. Work with PM and Engineering to validate messaging, shape launch plans, and feed customer and field insight back into the roadmap.
What You'll Bring
  • 6+ years in technical product marketing, developer relations, solutions/sales engineering, or a comparable technical role in enterprise software - ideally databases, data infrastructure, or cloud.
  • Genuine technical depth: you can reason about databases (NoSQL and SQL), distributed systems, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and you're comfortable reading architecture diagrams and writing queries or code snippets.
  • A track record of building demos and technical content that move technical audiences to act.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication - you can go deep with an engineer and up-level for an executive in the same day.
  • Experience with competitive positioning and sales enablement in a B2B technical product.
  • Confidence presenting to technical audiences, on stage and on camera.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Nice to Have
  • Hands-on experience with Couchbase, MongoDB, or other NoSQL / document databases.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML, vector search, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Exposure to mobile/edge or real-time analytics workloads.
  • Experience marketing to developers and building technical community.
