Job description

The Database Administrator is responsible for managing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical database environments. This position ensures the availability, performance, security, and compliance of enterprise data platforms that support core business operations and strategic initiatives. The role works closely with infrastructure, application, and security teams to maintain reliable and scalable database solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade database environments across on-premises and hybrid infrastructures.
  • Administer and optimize large, complex databases supporting high-volume transactional and analytical workloads.
  • Ensure high availability through clustering, replication, failover, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Lead database performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization initiatives.
  • Implement and enforce enterprise security standards, including encryption, auditing, and role-based access control.
  • Support regulatory and compliance requirements, including DFARS, ITAR, and similar standards.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations while minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to align database architecture with enterprise standards.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks, architecture diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor database health using enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation support for critical production issues.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience administering databases in an enterprise or large-scale environment.
  • Expertise with one or more enterprise database platforms, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, IBM Db2, or similar technologies.
  • Strong experience with high-availability architectures, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Advanced SQL development and database performance tuning skills.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data security, auditing, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting 24x7 production environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation and process management skills.
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Additional requirements:

  • Experience supporting hybrid and cloud-based database environments, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing, OLAP systems, and large-scale reporting environments.
  • Experience with automation, scripting, and configuration management tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Knowledge of containerized and virtualized infrastructure environments.
  • Relevant database certifications are preferred, including Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or AWS Database Specialty.
