Position: Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Engineer
Location: Remote
Job Description:
Proven, hands-on experience designing, creating, and deploying Azure Virtual Desktops.
Clear working knowledge of AVD architecture: host pools, workspaces, application groups, and session hosts.
Strong understanding of multi-user (pooled) vs. personal (dedicated) desktop models and user assignment.
Solid Azure infrastructure fundamentals: Resource Groups, VNets/subnets, and network security.
Experience with AVD cost management and optimization.
Lifecycle automation with PowerShell / Azure CLI and infrastructure-as-code (Bicep, ARM, or Terraform); Azure Automation a plus.
Design, build, and deploy AVD environments - from resource specification and session-host sizing through production rollout.
Design AVD resource specifications - VM SKU/host sizing, image selection, capacity, and naming standards (environment + host-pool-type tagging).
Stand up and maintain the underlying Azure infrastructure - Resource Groups, VNets/subnets, Host Pools, and Workspaces (plus application groups and session hosts).
Configure multi-user vs. personal desktops - select the right model per use case and manage Company Portal / application-delivery implications for each.
Assign AVDs to users - manage user-to-host-pool and application-group assignments and access.
Manage and optimize AVD costs - conduct monthly cost analysis, right-size hosts, and apply scaling/deallocation to control spend.
Automate the AVD lifecycle - provisioning, image updates, autoscaling, and decommissioning via scripting and infrastructure-as-code.
Microsoft Entra ID - Entra join for session hosts, device identity, Conditional Access, and SSO/MFA for AVD sign-in.
Microsoft Intune - Endpoint management of session hosts, Company Portal app delivery, and controlled Windows Update rings.
FSLogix - Roaming profile containers for pooled/multi-user host pools.
Microsoft 365 - Multi-session M365 Apps licensing and Office optimization within the desktop image.
Azure Networking - VNets, NSGs, and ExpressRoute/VPN + DNS connectivity between AVD and on-premises.
Azure Compute Gallery / Gold Images - Building, patching, and versioning golden images for session hosts.
Azure Cost Management - Monthly AVD cost reporting, budgeting, and right-sizing.
BitLocker - Disk/drive encryption on session hosts and troubleshooting encryption prompts.
Azure Bastion & BeyondTrust - Secure administrative and remote-support access to VMs.
