Job Description

This position is remote, but will require frequent travel to our Pittsburgh, PA headquarters based on business needs.

General Overview

This job provides strategic leadership and tactical direction working collaboratively with stakeholders from the organization's clinical, financial, and information technology functions. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of a business intelligence strategy and plan focused on Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse, and Reporting technologies. Additionally, this role works closely with stakeholders at all levels to identify and prioritize ongoing technology and process improvements. These initiatives will be delivered on current and emerging business intelligence platforms.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing BI team: recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of BI professionals, fostering deep expertise in healthcare data analytics, reporting, and data warehousing concepts, and promoting continuous learning and professional growth within AHN. (20%)
  • Define and lead AHN's BI strategy: strategically define, champion, and execute a comprehensive Business Intelligence (BI) roadmap tailored to meet Allegheny Health Network's (AHN) strategic goals for patient care, operational efficiency, quality outcomes, and financial performance. (15%)
  • Ensure data governance, quality, and compliance: establish and enforce enterprise-wide data governance policies, quality standards, and privacy frameworks across all clinical and operational data sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to HIPAA and other healthcare regulations for Protected Health Information (PHI). (15%)
  • Optimize data infrastructure & integration: oversee the design, development, maintenance, and performance optimization of AHN's data warehouses, data lakes, and other data infrastructure, ensuring robust integration, normalization, scalability, and security of data from various clinical and administrative systems. (15%)
  • Drive data literacy and utilization across AHN: champion and promote data literacy and the effective utilization of BI tools and insights across AHN's clinical, operational, and administrative departments, demonstrating the value derived from comprehensive data analysis. (15%)
  • Provide technical and analytical leadership: offer expert technical leadership in BI development, advanced data querying, and integration patterns, guiding the team in leveraging complex healthcare data models for actionable insights and reporting. (10%)
  • Manage BI project portfolio and resources: effectively manage the BI project portfolio, resource allocation, and project lifecycle, ensuring initiatives are aligned with AHN's strategic priorities, delivered efficiently, and provide measurable value. (10%)
Qualifications Minimum
  • High school diploma / GED
  • Minimum of ten years progressively responsible IT experience in developing and implementing complex enterprise systems.
  • Minimum six years of managerial responsibilities for direct reports—interviewing, hiring, corrective actions, terminations, evaluating staff performances, motivating, training, and delegating.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related discipline
  • Epic reporting and warehousing experience
  • Healthcare experience
  • Ability to work and manage in a highly matrixed organization
Skills
  • Proficiency in business intelligence tools, developing and delivering scorecards, dashboards, and trend data in partnership with the Business Intelligence and Enterprise Architects.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge in building data warehouses, database design, metadata strategy, ETL, and data integration.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong ability in relationship management.
  • Ability to manage financial resources to meet goals and multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated competency in project management and the execution of multiple large projects, including managing resources across multiple projects to meet goals.
