These roles can be found in a variety of industries such as customer service, data entry, tutoring, writing, and technical support. They are ideal for those looking to supplement their income, accommodate other weekday commitments, or maintain flexibility in their work schedule. Requirements and pay can vary depending on the employer and the nature of the work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote part time weekend worker?

Literacy Coach | Part-time

Really Great Reading

Part-time

Job description

Are you ready to make a lasting impact on literacy?
At Really Great Reading, we are building a bright, diverse, and passionate team dedicated to leading the industry in improving literacy scores nationwide. With nearly two decades of leadership bringing the Science of Reading to thousands of schools, we design innovative products, training, and materials that transform how educators teach and how students learn. Here, we empower our team with the tools, support, and professional growth opportunities they need to thrive in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment-where your work truly makes a difference.
Why This Role Matters
Behind every student who becomes a stronger reader is an educator with the knowledge, tools, and support to help them get there. Middle school is a critical crossroads for students struggling with reading, and effective literacy instruction can change the trajectory for students who have spent years falling behind.
As a Literacy Coach, you will work directly with educators to strengthen instruction, build their capacity, and deliver effective reading interventions. By combining hands-on coaching with student and implementation data, you will help teachers identify what students need, adjust their approach, and focus support where it can have the greatest impact.
Success in this role means teachers are strengthening their literacy instruction, coaching and support are responsive to what the data shows, and students who are struggling with reading are making measurable progress.
The Role
As a Literacy Coach, you'll work with teachers in schools across our Indiana partner districts. Your job is to help them teach reading better through on-site coaching, professional learning, modeling, co-planning, and day-to-day support.
The work is divided between time in schools and time analyzing data. You'll be in classrooms with teachers, and you'll also spend time reviewing student growth and implementation data to figure out where your support is needed most. You'll use that data to determine where your time and support are needed most, so the schools and classrooms with the greatest need get the most attention.
This is a remote role with regular school visits. You'll work from home part of the time and drive to your assigned schools the rest of the time. You won't be based in one building. Coaches are employed by RGR and work in partnership with schools, so you would not be an employee of the districts you support.
Locations served: Medora, Lakeland (LaGrange), North Gibson (Princeton), and South Bend, Indiana. Candidates must live within a 30-minute drive of schools in one of these areas. School visits are scheduled based on need and may occasionally require short-notice availability, so proximity to your assigned schools is essential.
Term: One-year assignment, renewable based on performance and continued need.
Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week. School hours generally fall during the instructional day. Some days require afternoon availability for scheduled professional development.
What You'll Do
In schools:
  • Run coaching cycles with teachers, including observation, modeling, co-teaching, and debrief conversations
  • Co-plan lessons, model instruction, and give feedback teachers can use right away
  • Help teachers deliver instruction and intervention well, and problem-solve when something isn't working
  • Lead professional learning sessions at the school, including some scheduled in the afternoon
  • Keep school leaders updated on progress and obstacles

Remote:
  • Review student growth data from screeners and progress monitoring to see which students are behind and why
  • Track how consistently teachers are using the supports available to them
  • Decide when and where to schedule your school visits based on what the data shows
  • Prepare coaching plans, professional learning materials, and teacher feedback
  • Report on results, including where progress has stalled

Collaboration:
  • Check in regularly with the Regional Engagement Manager who oversees the Indiana partnership
  • Attend virtual and in-person meetings with district partners and RGR's GRT members
  • Share what you're seeing in schools so it can inform how we support the partnership

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and how students learn to read
  • Ability to interpret student reading data, identify patterns, and adjust support accordingly
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with teachers and school leaders
  • Ability to work independently and manage time across remote and on-site responsibilities
  • Residence within 30 minutes of schools in Medora, Lakeland (LaGrange), North Gibson (Princeton), or South Bend
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly to assigned schools
  • Reliable home internet
  • Ability to pass required background checks

Preferred Qualifications
  • Literacy coaching, instructional coaching, or teacher-mentoring experience
  • Experience supporting students reading below grade level
  • Familiarity with structured literacy or reading intervention
  • Familiarity with universal screening and progress-monitoring tools

Physical Requirements
This is a fully remote role. Team members work primarily at a computer and regularly engage in video conferencing, document review, and digital collaboration. The ability to work at a screen for extended periods, use standard input devices, and participate in virtual meetings is required.
Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Really Great Reading is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive, high-performing workplace that reflects the diverse students, educators, and communities we serve. We believe diverse perspectives strengthen innovation, improve learning outcomes, and advance educational equity nationwide.
All employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability, genetics, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
