What is a remote orthopedic coder?

A remote orthopedic coder is a specialized medical coding professional who reviews and assigns standardized codes to orthopedic medical records and procedures from a remote location. They use coding systems such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS to accurately code diagnoses, treatments, and surgical procedures related to bones, joints, and muscles. This work supports billing, insurance claims, and compliance with healthcare regulations, all done from home or another off-site location. Remote orthopedic coders must have a strong understanding of orthopedic terminology, anatomy, and coding guidelines.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a remote orthopedic coder?

To thrive as a Remote Orthopedic Coder, you need a thorough understanding of medical coding standards (ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS), orthopedic terminology, and a relevant certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding software, and secure remote access tools is typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective independent communication are key soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure accurate coding, compliant billing, and efficient workflow in a remote environment, reducing errors and optimizing revenue cycles.

How does a remote orthopedic coder collaborate with healthcare providers and other coding professionals?

Job description

About Fit: Match
Fit:Match develops Body AI technology spanning healthcare, sports, and retail. Our products, including the consumer QuadraScan applications and our clinical platform, apply body scanning and movement analysis to deliver precise, actionable insight. Our clinical work is conducted in partnership with a world-renowned orthopedic institution, and we hold ourselves to the standard that partnership demands.
Role Overview
Fit:Match is seeking a Lead iOS Engineer to serve as the founding technical hire on a clinical team. This individual will own the architecture of the iOS clinical application, partner with our ML/CV team on on-device pose and movement analysis, and establish the engineering standards against which the broader team will build. The role reports directly to the Head of Mobile Development. This is a technical senior individual contributor role.
This is a contract-to-hire position.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the iOS clinical application
  • Build the data-rich member experience at the heart of the platform: structured workout delivery and logging (prescribed versus completed), longitudinal progress visualization, assessment results, and educational content
  • Implement HealthKit and Apple Watch integration and present wearable-derived data - activity, sleep, recovery, heart-rate variability- in a member-friendly, longitudinal format
  • Partner with backend and web engineers to define the API contracts and shared data models underpinning training programs, assessments, and wearable data
  • Develop real-time pose estimation and movement-analysis capabilities using VNDetectHumanBodyPoseRequest, AVFoundation, and CoreML, advancing an existing live prototype to clinical-grade quality
  • Partner directly with ML/CV engineers on the on-device implementation of custom movement models
  • Define iOS engineering standards for the clinical team, including code organization, testing strategy, and release processes, building on the conventions of our existing mobile team where applicable
  • Mentor and review the work of a junior iOS engineer who will join the team shortly after this hire
  • Collaborate with our existing iOS team of three engineers, who ship our consumer QuadraScan applications, with the authority to evolve shared CI/CD and release infrastructure to meet clinical-grade requirements
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience shipping iOS applications in Swift, including at least one production application making substantive use of AVFoundation, Vision, ARKit, or CoreML (for example, real-time camera pipelines, on-device machine learning, or computer vision)
  • A well-developed perspective on iOS architecture, including composition, testability, and modularization, together with the judgment to apply these principles at a level appropriate to the team's maturity
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the senior iOS voice on a team, providing code review, mentorship, and technical direction
  • Experience working in a HIPAA-regulated environment, or the professional maturity to ramp into one quickly
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare, telehealth, or clinical software, particularly FDA-adjacent or EHR-adjacent work
  • Background in computer vision, biomechanics, motion capture, or sports science
  • Experience integrating with HealthKit and Apple Watch
  • A track record of shipping products that leverage on-device machine learning for safety-critical or measurement-critical use cases

How We Work
  • AI-assisted engineering is standard practice at Fit: Match. Tools such as Claude Code are an integrated part of our development workflow, and we expect engineers to use them thoughtfully and effectively.
