Job description

Structural Engineer Inspector | Remote-Based with Travel

IMEG is seeking a Structural Engineer Inspector for a remote-based role that offers the flexibility of working from home while traveling to project sites for visual observations and inspections. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the field, working directly with contractors, engineers, and project teams, and playing a key role in verifying that structural work is being completed in alignment with applicable codes, project specifications, and design intent.

In this role, you'll perform visual site observations of structural elements related to earthwork, concrete, masonry, steel, and wood construction. You'll document field conditions, identify and communicate discrepancies, and support project teams by helping ensure quality, safety, and structural integrity throughout construction.

This position is focused on structural observations and inspection support and does not include Construction Materials Testing. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of construction practices, material behavior, and field coordination, along with the ability to work independently in a remote/travel-based environment.

Principal Responsibilities

Perform field observations and inspections of structural elements of buildings and other structures
Serve as an International Building Code defined Special Inspector on applicable projects designed by the company or by other companies
Prepare well-written, organized inspection reports
Assist project design teams as required by the project
Interpret and evaluate field conditions and laboratory reports
Conduct job site visits and photograph relevant field conditions for report documentation
Document observations, project discrepancies, and collaboration with the Structural Engineer of Record (SEoR) to support remedial action
Review shop drawings and provide markups to the SEoR for review and approval
Assist with requests for information (RFIs), interpretation of test results, and contractor change orders

Required Qualifications and Skills

Associates degree, or certificate, in Engineering, or equivalent, preferred
No experience required, 1 years of experience preferred; prior experience in structural inspection or the building design consulting industry preferred
Possession of, or desire to obtain a recognized certification related to Structural Inspection (i. e. ICC General Requirements, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting, ICC Structural Welding, ICC Master of Special Inspections, and/or AWS-Certified Weld Inspector) preferred
Ability to read and understand construction documents including drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
Manage and control own schedule to ensure timely services are provided on all assigned projects
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
