Position Overview: Buckfire Law Firm is dedicated to quality legal representation, a teamwork environment, and unrivaled client service. This position is to assist and provide support to attorneys handling medical malpractice and nursing home cases.

*This position requires Michigan residency and regular access to the firm’s Southfield office and is not open to fully remote candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Type letters, pleadings, discovery, memos, and other documents as requested

• File pleadings with the court by mail and e-filing

• Notarize and witness documents and pleadings

• Arrange for service of process on parties and witnesses

• Track process server to ensure documents are timely served

• Communicate with the court, other counsel, clients, and expert witnesses

• Assist attorneys with all scheduling issues, including depositions and court hearings

• Schedule hearings with courts and adjourn existing dates

• Order, track, and download medical and other records for litigated matters

• Prepare closed files for storage, including placing confidential documents in shred box

• Request files back from storage upon request of staff or clients

• Reserve court reporters and video reporters for depositions

• Assist attorney with discovery requests and responses

• Schedule Zoom meetings with clients, experts, and for depositions

• Handle mail related matters

• Check scanned mail daily and save to appropriate client file

• Organize and maintain files

• Handle phone backups as scheduled and needed

• Adhere to checklist items assigned

• Enter and update required information

• Assist in the ordering of medical records

• Other duties / responsibilities as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience working on medical malpractice and/or nursing home cases

• Meticulous in calendaring statutes of limitations, depositions, scheduling order dates

• Effective problem-solving abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities

• Strong typing and computer skills, including MS Word

• Understanding of Neos Case Management and Dashboards

• Serve as Notary public

• Strong client service skills, including compassion and empathy

• Ability to both follow instructions and think independently

• Personable on phone interaction with clients, attorneys, and experts

• Proficient on computer, internet, required software, and e-mail

• Ability to develop trust in clients and team members

• Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented work environment

• Professional demeanor and appearance

• Strong personal focus on meeting or exceeding individual, department, and Firm goals

• Willingness to learn and become proficient in new software and technologies
