Home Center EDI Specialist
Position Overview
Position Overview:
The EDI Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end execution of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions for Home Center accounts, ensuring accurate order processing, data integrity, and compliance with customer-specific requirements. This role proactively monitors order flow, inventory alignment, and system performance to identify and resolve issues that could impact fulfillment, billing, or customer experience. The position partners cross-functionally with Planning, Distribution, Production, Sales, and Finance to optimize order execution, mitigate risk, and improve operational efficiency. Through strong technical knowledge, customer engagement, and continuous process improvement, this role drives reliable execution, supports scalable operations, and delivers a high-quality customer experience
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Process and manage incoming EDI orders ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and account compliance.

  • Review order status and proactively communicate with relevant business partners & customers to resolve any issues that may impact shipping or delivery timelines.

  • Analyze inventory and backorder trends to proactively mitigate risk, resolve constraints, and improve order fulfillment performance.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally (Planning, Distribution, Production, Sales) to align inventory positioning with order flow and customer requirements.

  • Input and Maintain Cross Reference (Xref) tables in SEDI to ensure accurate data flow across EDI systems.

  • Maintain knowledge of account specific VBA Guidelines to ensure PO adherence through proper order entry and review of customer-specific requirements. This is critical to ensure a positive Customer experience.

  • Obtain extensive knowledge of the EDI process and customer set up including customer specific guidelines.

  • Ensure data accuracy across systems and customer portals, enabling reliable inventory visibility and execution

  • Review and process EDI documents, including but not limited to 850s, 846s, 864s

  • Oversee invoice processing across vendor portals, including transmission, validation, billing rules, and error resolution

  • Use technology comfortably to identify technical concerns as they arise, process manual requests, troubleshoot basic issues, and seek assistance for complex challenges.

  • Monitor, research, and correct order errors that occur as order rejections. Proactively use tools available such as order reports to identify those order rejections, pricing alerts, customer disputes, and claims to ensure a timely and accurate solution.

  • Document and improve internal SOPs for portal and EDI workflows

  • Communicate effectively with Home Improvement chains to provide updates, answer inquiries, and address any concerns that arise.

  • Collaborate with logistics and warehouse teams to coordinate the timely shipment of orders, ensuring compliance with customer requirements.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries from Home Center accounts regarding order status, shipping details, and any potential issues.

  • Oversee and maintain customer portals to ensure accurate and efficient data transmission, facilitating seamless communication, and collaboration with customers. Support training and onboarding of new team members on EDI processes and customer service protocols.

  • Versatile and proactive team member who is eager to cross-train in all Home Center accounts. Willing to take on tasks beyond their primary responsibilities, when needed.

Position Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Experience: Two years in a service environment

  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand systems and system requirements

  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, easy-to-understand guidance for both internal teams and customers.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Preferences:
  • Experience working with EDI transactions, compliance requirements, vendor portals, and inventory-related order management processes.

Remote Work Requirements:
For associates working remotely, the following are required:
  • Reliable Internet Connection: Must have a high-speed, wired internet connection (minimum 10Mb download / 3Mb upload) with no data limitations or restrictions. A 25Mb download / 10Mb upload is preferred.
  • Workspace Setup: A defined, ergonomic workspace is essential, free from distractions, to ensure a professional and effective work environment.
  • Availability: Remote employees must be available to work during inclement weather, emergencies, and be available for scheduled overtime or schedule adjustments as needed.
