Job description

We are open to candidates in the following metros:

  • S.F., N.Y.C., Lehi, UT (hybrid work)
  • Austin TX, Denver CO, Philadelphia PA, Boston MA (fully remote)

About The Role

We are looking for a Solution Architect who serves as the technical brain trust for our largest enterprise implementations. You will lead design workshops, architect integration strategies, translate complex business requirements into implementable solutions, and guide customers through the technical decisions that determine their success with Rocketlane.

This is a consultative role that requires both technical depth and business acumen. You need to deeply understand APIs, integration patterns, data flows, and system architectures well enough to design solutions that implementation teams can execute. You will command respect in the room with customer execs and operators, while also translating technical constraints into business language for executives.

If you love the strategy and design phase of implementation- where you architect the solution, define the technical approach, and set the team up for success, this role is for you.

---

What You Will Do

Customer-Facing Technical Leadership

  • Lead design workshops and discovery sessions with enterprise customers to understand business requirements, technical environment, and success criteria
  • Architect end-to-end solutions that balance customer needs, Rocketlane capabilities, technical feasibility, and long-term scalability
  • Present multiple solution options with clear trade-off analysis (custom vs out-of-box, immediate vs phased approach) and make confident recommendations
  • Guide customers through critical technical decisions: integration architecture, data migration strategy, reporting structure, workflow design etc
  • Push back diplomatically when customer requests are out of scope, technically risky, or misaligned with best practices and propose better alternatives

Integration & Technical Design

  • Design integrations between Rocketlane and enterprise systems (such as NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, SAP, Oracle, HRMS, CRMs, data warehouses)
  • Define data flows, API specifications, authentication patterns (OAuth, SAML, SSO), and error handling strategies
  • Evaluate and recommend integration approaches: native connectors, iPaaS platforms (Workato, Boomi, Zapier, Make), or custom API development
  • Partner with customer IT teams to ensure integrations meet their security, compliance, and performance requirements
  • Create technical design documents, integration specs, and data mapping templates that implementation teams can execute against
  • Understand REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven architectures, and modern SaaS integration patterns well enough to guide technical conversations with customer engineering teams

Functional Solution Design

  • Translate business requirements into Rocketlane configurations: project templates, workflows, custom fields, automation rules, reporting structures
  • Design resource management models, budget tracking frameworks, time entry workflows, and financial reporting hierarchies
  • Guide customers on PSA best practices: utilization tracking, revenue recognition, project margin analysis, capacity planning

Data Migration & Transition Planning

  • Design data migration strategies for customers moving from legacy PSA/ERP/CRM systems
  • Define data mapping, transformation rules, validation criteria, and cutover plans
  • Partner with customer IT and implementation teams to ensure clean, accurate data transitions

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate field insights into product requirements
  • Serve as technical escalation point for implementation consultants in professional Services
  • Document repeatable solution patterns, integration playbooks, and design frameworks that accelerate future implementations
  • Mentor implementation team on technical concepts, integration approaches, and solution design thinking

Who You Are

Experience & Technical Foundation

  • 7–10 years in solutions architecture, technical consulting, pre-sales engineering, or enterprise implementation roles
  • Deep experience designing solutions for SaaS platforms (PSA, CRM, ERP, ITSM, workflow automation) in enterprise environments
  • Strong understanding of integration architectures: REST APIs, webhooks, iPaaS platforms, authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, SAML, SSO)
  • Proven ability to read API documentation, understand technical specifications, and translate them into implementation guidance (you do not write the code, but you design what needs to be built)
  • Experience evaluating integration platforms (Workato, Boomi, Zapier, Tray.io, MuleSoft) and guiding build vs buy decisions
  • Familiarity with data modeling, ETL processes, and enterprise data flows
  • Ability to efficiently leverage modern AI tools (e.g., MCPs Claude, etc.) to enhance productivity, accelerate problem-solving, and deliver high-quality pre-sales outputs

Domain Knowledge (Nice-to-Have)

  • Understanding of Professional Services Automation (PSA) platforms and PS operations: project delivery, resource management, time tracking, revenue recognition, margin analysis
  • Exposure to financial systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks) or HRMS platforms (Workday, BambooHR, ADP)
  • Experience with enterprise software categories: CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), ERP (SAP, Oracle), or data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks)

Consulting & Communication Excellence

  • Exceptional at running design workshops with senior stakeholders and building consensus across technical and business audiences
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business language and vice versa
  • Confident pushing back on customers when requests are technically risky, out of scope, or violate best practices—while maintaining strong relationships
  • Creative problem solver who can architect solutions in ambiguous situations without predefined playbooks
