Job description

  • Hybrid for candidates in Nashville and surrounding areas.
  • Remote option available for candidates outside of surrounding areas. 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data, architectural engineers across onshore and offshore resources
  • Support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence

Data Platform & Architecture

  • Provide architectural direction for the enterprise data warehouse and data lake, ensuring alignment with healthcare data standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Design and optimize scalable, secure data pipelines using Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Azure-native data services
  • Guide integration of data from multiple healthcare sources, including EMRs, claims systems, and patient portals
  • Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and long-term maintainability

Delivery & Collaboration

  • Partner with clinical, operational, analytics, and IT teams to deliver trusted, self-service data and insights
  • Oversee strategic data initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities and organizational goals
  • Promote and institutionalize Agile and iterative development practices within the data engineering organization

Governance, Quality & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce data governance, privacy, security, and quality standards across platforms and pipelines
  • Ensure compliant handling of healthcare data, including PHI, in accordance with HIPAA and internal policies
  • Support data stewardship, documentation, and auditability across the data ecosystem

Innovation & Strategy

  • Stay current with industry trends in data engineering, process automation, cloud platforms, DataOps, and MLOps
  • Identify opportunities to modernize tooling, architecture, and delivery practices to improve outcomes and efficiency
  • Contribute to long-term data and analytics strategy and roadmap development

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, automation or related technical roles
  • 3+ years of experience in leadership or people management capacity
  • Strong background in SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT development
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, including:
    • Building Spark-based data pipelines
    • Managing cluster performance and cost optimization
    • Integrating with Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lake Storage
  • Deep understanding of Azure cloud architecture and healthcare-specific data challenges
  • Proven ability to design and architect data and analytics solutions across project, product, and program levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with healthcare data formats and standards such as HL7, FHIR, and claims data
  • Experience with BI and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Sigma
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience operating in regulated environments with a focus on security, privacy, and compliance
