POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Aspen Company under Quanta safely provides comprehensive infrastructure services to fiber, wireline and wireless carrier customers within the communications industry.  With a focus on delivering our customers of the highest quality and service, we need smart, dedicated individuals that take pride in their work and have the savvy to thrive in a rapidly growing environment. 

The Aspen Company is actively seeking 4 Field Surveyors, who will collect field data for design of construction drawings including the preparation of field notes, sketches, and recorded measurements of all exiting utilities, structures, roadways and construction obstacles. 

This role can be based anywhere in the Houston Tx and outlying areas of Houston.  This role will require extensive travel and is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn about Houston and outlying areas.

What You'll Do

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Deliver preliminary designs using Make Ready Engineering, perform OSP Ride-out Activities, including preliminary design pole verification, parcel verification, design verification, utility verification, identify routing obstacles, and aerial to underground percentage verification.
  • Gather any local ordinances or requirements, and all other preliminary data collection not specifically called out;
  • Coordinate the design with permitting ROW agents and adjusting the design and approach as necessary.
  • Develop accurate fiber/optical network construction estimates
  • Develop accurate network documentation/schematics
  • Conduct site surveys
  • Locate fiber optic cables
  • Draw and stake new construction opportunities
  • Additional duties as needed and or assigned
  • Travel to locations where projects will be executed on an ongoing/regular basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from sub-zero to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.

Lifting and carrying of 10 to 50 pounds frequently is required. Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent. Job requires standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and reaching a majority of the time. May spend long periods of time driving and/or riding in line construction vehicles to reach remote areas of the service territory.

Subject to drug and alcohol testing, as applicable by federal regulations or as required by Quanta.

Business requirements may frequently necessitate that work be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.

What You'll Bring

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Skills):

  • In depth experience fielding OSP in the commercial market, including Fiber to the Home FTTH deployments.
  • Strong knowledge of both aerial and underground Fiber Optic cable systems, cable placement, and aerial make ready tasks.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of base maps, pole surveys, DOT maps, utility ROW and attachment requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of Commercial Standards, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), RUS Requirements, State and Local Requirements.
  • Knowledge of GO-95 & GO-128 standards preferred.
  • Motivated self-starter with passion and drive to start and complete project
  • Experience and understanding of outside plant construction techniques
  • Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, switching and network management
  • Exceptional service orientation - experience in providing customer service and support that exceeds the expectations of internal and external clients
  • Experience with project management processes, tools, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects with reproducible results
  • Great communication skills - written and verbal
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble resolution abilities
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel,
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to travel up to 100% of the time.
