Position Overview: 

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking a highly capable and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Bureau Chief for OIG. They will work with the senior management team and serve as a project manager in making quality improvements for OIG. They will understand Medicaid and managed care and the state and federal regulatory landscape for healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment in the identification of priorities, to work collaboratively with internal and external partners, to proactively address legal issues, and to ensure timely completion of all work. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills to achieve goals while demonstrating independent initiative. The candidate will possess strong written and verbal skills.

Essential Functions
  • Subject to management approval, serves as Assistant Bureau Chief for Medicaid Integrity by providing complex administrative direction to unit management staff
  • Serves as a full line supervisor
  • Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the activities of the Audits (Financial, External Vendor and Managed Care Organization compliance) and Health Care Standards (Peer Review) units
  • Directs the identification, evaluation and development of program and policy proposals to improve program effectiveness
  • Represents the Bureau Chief with Healthcare and Family Services and Office of Inspector General executive management meetings and other state and federal agency staff in support of the Bureau’s programs and initiatives
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of professional experience working in healthcare compliance, payment integrity, healthcare audits or investigations, or healthcare anti-fraud unit
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in regulatory interpretation for a Managed Care Plan, Medicaid, or government healthcare program
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in clinical healthcare, medical coding, auditing, utilization of management or related experience
  • Three (3) years of professional experience reviewing and evaluating programs, services, and work performance to increase efficiency
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in vendor partner oversight, working with contractors and vendor management, or audit firms
  • Three (3) years professional experience communicating verbally and drafting reports regarding program initiatives
  • Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience
  • Two (2) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail
  • Two (2) years professional experience in critical thinking skills while multi-tasking several projects simultaneously
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history
  • Requires ability to travel statewide in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Requires the ability to utilize and maintain state-issued equipment such as a laptop
