Job description

Prolego is seeking Gen AI Systems Developers to design, build, and customize cutting-edge AI applications using large language models (LLMs). You will work remotely in a remote-first environment alongside a highly skilled team of engineers and product experts. We collaborate as neededโ€”sharing insights, solving problems togetherโ€”then trust each other to execute independently. This is not the right role for someone who needs frequent, direct oversight. Instead, we look for individuals with initiative who thrive on autonomy and collaboration in equal measure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Custom Python Application Development: Go well beyond โ€œprompt engineeringโ€ by building end-to-end solutions that solve real-world client problems. This includes:

    • Data & Document Preprocessing: Prepare and structure client data for use with LLMs.

    • Evaluation Frameworks: Develop custom methods to test and validate LLM performance.

    • Interfaces & Integrations: Create robust interfaces to LLMs that can ingest data, feed context into models, and deliver results.

    • Full Solution Ownership: Walk into a client challenge and deliver a complete applicationโ€”from data ingestion to LLM outputโ€”ensuring it meets business and technical needs.

  • Security & Compliance: Identify and mitigate potential risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, and misalignment issues.

  • AI-Enabled Coding: Embrace modern AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor) to maximize productivity and deliver greater value to clients.

  • Client Collaboration: Communicate complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders; create presentations tailored for audiences ranging from domain experts to Fortune 500 leaders.

  • Independent Execution: Collaborate in short sprints, then work autonomously to meet goals without continuous oversight.

  • Ongoing Experimentation & Innovation: Continuously iterate on LLM-based solutions, testing new approaches and technologies.

What We Look For
  • U.S. Residency & Authorization: Must reside in the continental United States; we do not sponsor visas.

  • Python Expertise: Advanced skills in Python, with evidence of production-quality code (GitHub repos or equivalent).

  • LLM Project Experience: Hands-on background working with large language models. Please be ready to share code samples or GitHub projects showcasing relevant work.

  • Data Science Mindset: While this is not a data science position, you must demonstrate the ability to decompose problems, evaluate foundations, and apply a structured, analytical approach to solving technical challenges.

  • Adaptability & Continuous Learning: More than a laundry list of skills, we value your proven ability to learn quickly and master new technologies.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication, capable of presenting complex ideas to varied audiences.

  • Soft Skills & Teamwork: Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and self-direction skills to thrive in a dynamic environment.

  • Preferred Background: Graduate or doctoral studies in physics, engineering, math, computer science, or a related discipline are a plus. Teaching/training experience is also highly valued.

Salary & Benefits
  • Compensation: $185,000 โ€“ $215,000 (based on experience)

  • Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance, 401(k), and unlimited vacation.

Work Culture & Environment
  • Remote-First Team: Operate from anywhere in the continental U.S., with limited in-person client visits (a few times per year).

  • Autonomy & Collaboration: We move quickly to support each other, solve problems, and then execute independentlyโ€”requiring strong initiative and self-management.

  • Innovation-Driven: We invest in new technologies and best practices, particularly in AI, to remain on the leading edge of whatโ€™s possible.

Hiring Timeline

We are filling multiple roles immediately and will continue hiring over the next six months to support our growing client base.

Compensation Range: $185K - $215K
