Job description

We are sharing a specialised remote consulting opportunity for experienced systems engineers with strong coding agent experience, practical systems-level engineering judgment, and the ability to evaluate complex code, architecture decisions, and technical implementations across realistic systems engineering scenarios.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on systems engineering evaluation, coding-agent-assisted technical workflows, architecture review, performance analysis, infrastructure software assessment, and production-scale systems reasoning. Selected professionals may use tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or comparable coding agents to complete, review, and evaluate technical tasks involving distributed systems, networking, operating systems, storage systems, infrastructure software, database internals, and performance-critical engineering workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Systems Engineering Evaluation

  • Use modern coding agents to complete and evaluate complex systems engineering tasks
  • Review generated code, architecture decisions, and systems implementations for correctness, quality, maintainability, performance, and production-readiness
  • Identify bugs, edge cases, performance bottlenecks, failure modes, and weak assumptions in technical outputs
  • Apply professional systems engineering judgment to realistic software and infrastructure scenarios

Architecture, Performance & Reliability Review

  • Evaluate systems designs involving distributed systems, networking, operating systems, storage systems, infrastructure software, or database internals
  • Review technical decisions related to scalability, latency, concurrency, fault tolerance, resource usage, reliability, and maintainability
  • Assess whether proposed implementations reflect real-world systems engineering standards and production-scale expectations
  • Provide structured feedback on architecture quality, performance trade-offs, failure handling, and implementation risks

Coding Agent Output Assessment

  • Compare outputs from multiple coding agents and assess their strengths, weaknesses, accuracy, and practical usefulness
  • Identify where generated solutions succeed, where they fail, and where additional systems engineering judgment is required
  • Evaluate whether generated systems designs and implementations are technically sound, scalable, and performance-aware
  • Document technical review findings clearly for project teams and quality evaluation workflows

Technical Documentation & Feedback

  • Produce clear, structured evaluations of systems engineering tasks and generated outputs
  • Explain reasoning around system design, performance, concurrency, reliability, failure modes, storage, networking, and infrastructure trade-offs
  • Support technical assessment workflows by documenting accepted work, improvement areas, and practical engineering conclusions
  • Help ensure outputs reflect production-scale systems engineering expectations

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • 2+ years of professional systems engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems, networking, operating systems, storage systems, infrastructure software, or database internals
  • Regular use of AI coding agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or comparable tools
  • Ability to evaluate generated systems designs and technical implementations
  • Experience building highly scalable and performance-critical systems is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of architecture trade-offs, concurrency, latency, resource management, scalability, reliability, and failure handling
  • Clear written communication skills and comfort documenting technical reasoning in a remote, project-based environment

Educational Background

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is helpful
  • Equivalent professional experience in systems engineering, distributed systems, infrastructure software, performance-critical systems, or production software engineering is also highly relevant

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Go, Rust, C, C++, Java, Python, or comparable systems-oriented programming languages
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, networking protocols, storage engines, distributed databases, concurrency models, performance profiling, or low-level debugging
  • Experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, service mesh, observability tooling, infrastructure automation, or large-scale backend systems
  • Background in technical code review, systems architecture review, performance evaluation, or production reliability work
  • Strong comfort working in sprint-based project environments with focused technical assessment windows

Why This Opportunity

  • Remote consulting work aligned with systems engineering, coding agent, and technical evaluation expertise
  • Opportunity to evaluate realistic systems engineering workflows involving architecture, performance, distributed systems, infrastructure software, and reliability
  • Suitable for engineers who enjoy technical assessment, tool-assisted coding workflows, systems design review, and practical performance-focused problem-solving
  • Sprint-based project work that can align with focused availability and remote schedules

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote and flexible scheduling
  • Sprint-based, project-based availability
  • Some project work may run in focused 12–24 hour sprint windows depending on project requirements
  • Compensation may reach up to $90/hour, depending on project scope, experience, and accepted work structure
  • Some projects may use accepted-task compensation depending on the specific workflow
  • Payments are made weekly via Stripe or Wise based on services rendered
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, adjusted, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Candidates requiring H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship support are not eligible at this time
