Camp Nurse for Children with Special Needs

Jill’s House is a Christian non-profit organization and auxiliary ministry of McLean Bible Church called by God to love families raising children (ages 6-17) with intellectual disabilities toward Jesus by providing them with short-term, overnight respite care and holistic family support services. Role Summary:

Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the camp nurse (RN/LPN) works alongside the Weekend Adventures team from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and oversees all medical care for campers ages 6-17 with intellectual disabilities.

There is one nurse on site who oversees the medical care for an average of 10 campers throughout the weekend. The nurse works alongside our Local Program Manager, Direct Support Professionals, and Volunteers to ensure our campers stay safe while having fun. In addition to the medical responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to assist our campers in activities such as hiking, low ropes courses, hayrides, craft time and even s'mores!


General Duties:

  • Communicate with parents during check-in and check-out
  • Administer medications in a safe and timely manner
  • Attend to injuries and medical emergencies according to the guidelines provided by the nurse manager
  • Document within EMR system
  • Anticipate medical/nursing care problems and provide solutions
  • Assist with ADLs as needed


Education/Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current, active, and unrestricted RN or LPN license in the state of Wisconsin
  • BSN preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS
  • 1 year of nursing experience required; intellectual/developmental disability, or neurologic experience preferred

Additional Skills Required:

  • Possess the ability to remain calm and focused and enjoy working directly with children
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Vibrant faith and passion for serving individuals with intellectual disabilities, God, and others
  • Must affirm the McLean Bible Church Vision and Values as well as abide by the Standards of Christian Conduct.


Commitment level:

  • 3-5 weekends/year
