What is a remote operating room nurse educator?

A Remote Operating Room Nurse Educator is a registered nurse who specializes in providing education and training to surgical nursing staff, but does so remotely rather than in-person. They develop and deliver online educational materials, host virtual training sessions, and support continuing education for perioperative nurses. Their goal is to ensure that operating room staff are up-to-date with the latest procedures, protocols, and best practices, helping to maintain high standards of patient care and safety. This role is increasingly important as healthcare organizations adopt more digital education solutions.

How does a remote operating room nurse educator effectively support and train perioperative staff without being physically present in the surgical suite?

To thrive as a Remote Operating Room Nurse Educator, you need comprehensive experience in perioperative nursing, a current RN license, and often a BSN or MSN degree, along with a background in nurse education. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), virtual meeting platforms, and certifications like CNOR are commonly required.
