Remote Offshore Mud Engineer information

What is a remote offshore mud engineer?

Remote Offshore Mud Engineers are specialized professionals who manage drilling fluids, commonly known as 'mud,' on offshore oil and gas rigs. They monitor and adjust the properties of drilling mud to optimize drilling performance, maintain wellbore stability, and prevent blowouts. In a remote capacity, they use digital technologies and remote monitoring systems to support operations without being physically present on the rig, enhancing safety and efficiency. Their expertise is crucial in ensuring smooth drilling operations and minimizing environmental impact.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote offshore mud engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Offshore Mud Engineer, you need a strong background in drilling fluid systems, chemistry, and geology, typically supported by a degree in engineering or related field and relevant offshore certifications. Proficiency with drilling fluid analysis tools, real-time monitoring software, and mud logging systems is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication are vital soft skills for coordinating with drilling teams and responding quickly to operational challenges. These competencies ensure safe, efficient drilling operations and help prevent costly downhole issues on remote offshore rigs.

What are common challenges faced by remote offshore mud engineers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote Offshore Mud Engineers often encounter challenges such as rapidly changing well conditions, limited access to immediate technical support, and the need to communicate clearly with onshore teams. Managing these challenges effectively requires strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach to monitoring drilling parameters, and proficiency with real-time data monitoring systems. Building solid communication routines with both offshore crew and onshore support teams is key to ensuring smooth operations and quick resolution of issues.

Job description

We're growing our Solutions Engineering team to support one of the most important initiatives on our roadmap: managing migrations from legacy platforms to the go-forward software we're standardizing our product roadmap and engineering efforts around. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role. You'll be the technical voice in the room for prospects and customers navigating this transition, running deep-dive demos, building sandboxes, and helping technical buyers see exactly how our future compliance program management solutions solve their problems.

Following our acquisition of Healthicity, our sales organization now brings together two strong, established platforms - Compliance Manager and Guard - that solve similar problems for customers in very different ways. As we bring these solutions together under one roof, customers are increasingly asking which platform is the right fit for their goals, and we need deep technical expertise to help them find the right answer.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact role. You'll be the technical voice in the room for prospects and customers as they evaluate their current use of compliance solutions, their pain points today and how those pain points are addressed by our future roadmap. You'll be running deep-dive demos, building sandboxes, and helping buyers understand how each platform fits their needs, including migrating across platforms where that's the right move. You'll need to build genuine depth on both platforms, understanding not just what each one does, but why a customer might choose one over the other.

We're looking for someone who can go deep on the technical details and tell a compelling story about why it matters. If you love getting your hands dirty in a product, translating complexity into clarity, and being a trusted partner to both customers and your internal team, we'd love to talk.ย

What You'll Do

Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers evaluating or migrating across platforms. Understand their environment and design a migration path that fits their infrastructure. Please note this is a multi-year effort kicking off in late 2026 and expected to be a focus through the end of 2028

Own technical discovery, deep-dive demos, and sandboxes for prospects and customers, tailored to where they are in their migration journey.

Partner closely with Customer Success to help customers migrate smoothly and realize value quickly post-migration.

Support configuration and deliver minor technical changes needed to get prospects and customers successfully implemented.

Develop and maintain technical documentation, migration guides, and talk tracks that streamline both pre-sales conversations and post-sales onboarding.

Translate technical capabilities into business value. You're as comfortable with a technical buyer as you are with an economic buyer.ย

Feed prospect and customer feedback directly into Product and Engineering, helping shape product roadmaps and surfacing migration friction early.

What We're Looking For

5+ years of experience as a Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or in a similar technical pre-sales role.ย

Strong technical depth. You can credibly demo complex products, speak to configuration and implementation details, and answer tough technical questions on the fly.

A track record of managing relationships with large, complex organizations, ideally with a deeply technical enterprise product.

An understanding of, and comfort navigating, security, compliance, and IT processes at large enterprises. This maps directly to the migrations you'll be supporting.

A knack for storytelling and positioning. You can connect technical detail to the "why it matters" for the customer.ย

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting one-on-one, in small groups, and at larger venues.

Comfort working with ambiguity. This program is evolving, and we're building the playbook together.

A collaborative, low-ego, self-starter approach. You're as excited to help a teammate nail their demo as you are to run your own, and you find creative ways to get things over the finish line.

Nice to have:ย

Prior experience with healthcare compliance, governance, risk, or security products.ย

Experience supporting a product migration or platform transition.

Experience working with distributed or offshore teams.

Comfort operating in a small, fast-moving environment where the playbook is still being written.ย

Location: Remote - this role is budgeted for a salary range that aligns with regional compensation norms outside the US; qualified offshore applicants are encouraged to apply.
