Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a Power BI Developer to architect, design, and deliver enterprise-grade analytics solutions supporting complex EPC projects across the organization. This is a technical role that involves building strong relationships with project and discipline leads and deploying complex data strategies activities across Kiewit’s business functions. This role operates within the Digital Project Execution (DPE) team and will collaborate closely with data engineers, solution architects, project leadership, and technology teams to deliver production-grade BI solutions that drive operational decisions on major construction programs.

District Overview

This position is within the Kiewit Technology Group, supporting Kiewit Nuclear Solutions.

Responsibilities

Power BI Development

  • Develop interactive dashboards for project and field use

  • Implement row-level security (RLS), object-level security (OLS), and governance standards

  • Deploy and manage solutions within Power BI capacities

  • Configure and optimize data gateways

  • Manage workspaces, deployment pipelines, and versioning strategies

  • Design and develop scalable Power BI datasets using modeling best practices

  • Build optimized semantic models supporting enterprise-scale reporting

  • Implement incremental refresh, aggregation tables, composite models, and DirectQuery/Import hybrid architectures

  • Engineer high-performance DAX measures for complex business logic

  • Troubleshoot and refactor poorly performing models

  • Contribute to enterprise data standards and BI best practices

Data Integration and Engineering Collaboration

  • Work with data engineers to define optimized data contracts

  • Analyze and troubleshoot end-to-end data pipelines

  • Contribute to ELT design patterns across:

  • Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2)

  • Azure Databricks (Spark / PySpark / Spark SQL)

  • Azure Data Factory

  • SQL Server / Azure SQL

  • Ensure datasets are structured for performance, scalability, and reusability

  • Proficient in writing advanced / complex SQL, expertise in optimization of SQL queries preferred.

  • Familiarity with the EPC industry required (Engineering or Construction)

  • Experience in troubleshooting and working with various teams in resolving issues / solving complex problems.

  • Proven ability to understand complex business rules and processes and then build integration processes and database views to represent those rules and processes.

  • Preferred experience in secondary tools such as Azure Databricks, Visual studio, Azure Data Factory, etc.

  • Excellent written and strong oral communication skills.

  • Understanding of ETL fundamentals and solutions.

  • Should be proficient in writing advanced / complex SQL, expertise in performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries required.

  • Experience in Python/Pyspark and Spark SQL (primary languages used in our solutions).

  • Experience in troubleshooting data issues and analyzing end to end data pipelines.

  • Strong experience developing data analytics and visualizations with transformation and aggregation from multiple formats for analyzing and uncovering insights / intelligence for project teams.

  • Familiar with source control and version control systems

  • Experience in troubleshooting and working with various teams in resolving issues / solving complex problems.

  • Proven ability to understand complex business rules and processes.

  • Experience with creation of technical documentation for Functional Requirements, Scope documents, Technical Design, and Business Process Modeling etc.

  • 8+ years of experience in BI / data analytics

Base Compensation: $136,000/yr - $142,000/yr
