Purpose

Responsible for the design of fire protection engineering systems. Design work includes fire sprinkler, fire suppression, fire pump, fire alarm, and life safety systems.


Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under moderate supervision Requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on an occasional basis.
  • Work is completed using fire protection engineering techniques and principles and is reviewed by more senior staff.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings.

Do the Work

  • Design fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision.
  • Perform fire protection design calculations including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand.
  • Prepare project documents to track successful implementation from start to finish.
  • Apply knowledge of fire protection code and standards in broad areas of assignments.
  • Develop a working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Complete work according to standard design principles and practices and in compliance with company standards and quality system procedures.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments from verbal instructions under minimum supervision.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for review.
  • May coordinate the design work for a project.
  • May work on multiple projects at one time.

  • Experience with computer applications and fire protection engineering design software such as AutoSprink and familiarity with reading construction plans.
