Overview

LMI is seeking a Senior Data Architect to support a Department of War mission partner on an enterprise data architecture and modernization effort. This role designs the models, standards, and pipelines that govern how authoritative data is collected, cataloged, stored, integrated, and served across the enterprise, spanning both on-premises and cloud data environments. The architect serves as the subject-matter expert for data architecture and administration, balancing hands-on technical design with data governance, and works across enterprise data platforms, DoD analytics environments, and Microsoft 365. This is a largely remote position; however, candidates must reside in the vicinity of San Diego, CA to support periodic onsite collaboration.

This position requires an active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze enterprise data requirements and systems flow, and design solutions that facilitate enterprise data engineering across the organization.
  • Develop the models, policies, and standards that govern what data is collected and how it is administered, cataloged, stored, arranged, and integrated for use in systems across the enterprise.
  • Map data pipeline interactions and produce data pipeline blueprints, entity relationship diagrams, and architecture drawings.
  • Design and visualize the enterprise data management framework across on-premises and cloud-based data environments.
  • Research, design, implement, and manage enterprise data engineering systems, and serve as subject-matter expert for data architecture and administration.
  • Support data architecture across enterprise data environments, DoD analytics platforms, Microsoft 365, and other data environments.
  • Manage data governance and administrative requirements, including data sharing and use agreements, policies, procedures, user training and reference materials, change and incident management, Agile boards and backlogs, and cybersecurity accreditations.
  • Coordinate with government technical leads, platform and security teams, and data stakeholders, reporting to the Contracting Officer Representative.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Current DoD 8570/8140-compliant baseline certification appropriate for the position, such as CompTIA Security+.
  • Eight or more years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management.
  • Three or more years of recent experience (within the past five years) with data engineering and DataOps, data warehouse modeling and performance, data quality, data cataloging, data agreements management, moving data between systems, managing data warehouses, building and managing data pipelines, data visualization, data security, web services and APIs, and serving data to end users.
  • Three or more years of recent experience (within the past five years) in data science and analytics across a variety of data structures.
  • Five or more years of recent experience with Agile development and MS Visual Studio or Git operations.
  • Three or more years of recent experience (within the past five years) in either the Microsoft BI stack (Visio, SQL, C#.NET, MS SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, ASP.NET, IIS, Visual Studio, SQL Server 2012 or later, and Power BI) or a comparable modern data stack (such as DataHub, Collibra, Trifacta, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, AWS Glue, Amazon Athena, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, data lakehouse design, Databricks, and deployment of machine learning models to production).
  • Willing to work largely remote with periodic onsite collaboration in the vicinity of San Diego, CA.
  • Demonstrated self-driven problem-solving, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with DoD enterprise data and analytics platforms, such as Advana.
  • Experience across the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack, including SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI.
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid data services, including AWS Glue, Athena, and S3, and Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, and Databricks.
  • Experience with data cataloging and governance tooling, such as DataHub or Collibra.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models to production, including ML.NET.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Special Operations Forces or other Department of War mission partners.
