Job description

About Sycle

At Sycle, we’re transforming how audiology practices operate. Our cloud-based practice management platform powers over 20,000 users worldwide - from local clinics to enterprise retailers - helping them streamline operations and deliver better patient care. We’re a growing SaaS company with startup energy, industry respect, and global reach.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be a driving force on our engineering team as we pivot to an AI-driven, agentic development workflow. Much of our code is PHP but this role will be focused on building in Nodejs.

In this role, you will champion high-quality execution by effectively utilizing approved AI tools for implementation planning, code reviews, test generation, and refactoring. This isn't about replacing your engineering judgment; it is about scaling your impact to achieve risk-free velocity. You will actively contribute to and deliver on:

  • Governed AI Adoption: Applying approved AI tools transparently, safely, and in full compliance with company policies.
  • Optimized Delivery Flow: Executing tasks with modern efficiency to drive faster PR cycle times, quicker debugging, and tighter feedback loops.
  • Reliable Verification: Ensuring all AI-assisted changes you own are rigorously backed by automated tests, review evidence, and clear acceptance criteria before reaching production.
  • Production Integrity: Accelerating your delivery output while maintaining a 0% critical-defect rate and upholding top-tier security standards.

Tech Stack & Tools

  • Backend & Cloud: Node.js (Nestjs), PHP (Laravel), AWS, Microservices, RESTful APIs, SQL/NoSQL, Frontend: React (Nextjs), modern open-source web technologies
  • AI Tooling & Orchestration: Approved AI development tools and model access patterns, Claude via AWS Bedrock, code-review and test-generation agents, prompt/instruction management, evaluation frameworks, RAG/context pipelines, and orchestration tools such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar.

Key Pillars of Responsibility

  • High-Impact Execution: Implement complex feature development and technical patterns across core PHP/Node services and AWS infrastructure, ensuring scalability and clean design.
  • Guardrails & Compliance Adherence: Follow and enforce team-level practices (automated tests, static analysis, security checks) to keep AI and human code safe. Strictly adhere to data compliance policies (PHI, data retention, and auditability).
  • AI Workflow Optimization: Contibute to improving our AI-assisted engineering practices. When AI outputs are weak, help optimize repository instructions, prompts, or context sources to prevent recurring errors.
  • Peer Collaboration & Mentorship: Pair with and guide mid-level engineers on effective AI orchestration—demonstrating how to break down work, critically review generated code, and apply manual engineering judgment.
  • Technical Translation: Partner with the team and Product Owners to convert business requirements and Gherkin/BDD specs into clear technical execution tasks optimized for AI-assisted tools.

Skills & Requirements

  • Core Engineering Expertise: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong technical command of PHP (Laravel) and Node.js.
  • Modern Architecture: Solid experience implementing scalable RESTful APIs, distributed microservices, CI/CD pipelines, and optimized databases.
  • Agentic Proficiency: Practical, hands-on experience using LLMs and agentic workflows for autonomous code, debugging, and test generation.
  • Rigorous Verification: Strong background in automated testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright) and a proven ability to write comprehensive test suites that catch defects early.
  • Accountability: A firm "verify output" mindset, taking full personal responsibility for the security, quality, and maintainability of your production code, regardless of how it was generated.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to collaborate effectively with technical teammates and product stakeholders.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working within Healthcare IT or Practice Management Software.
  • Side projects, open-source contributions, or courses demonstrating active experimentation with LLM frameworks.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive personal health plan (Medical, Dental, Vision).
  • RRSP matching and Internet subsidy.
  • 3+ weeks of paid time off plus paid statutory holidays.

Join us in building the future of audiology care. If you’re a senior engineer eager to pioneer the frontier of AI-driven development, please apply.

Note: We this is a fully-remote role but we are only hiring candidates located within British Columbia (BC) or Alberta (AB)
