Job description

Communications & Telecommunications Engineering Professional
Job Type: Contract
Payrate: $39.00 – $88.00 per hour

Location: This position is open to candidates across the United States. Applicants must reside within 50 miles of an approved company office location and be available to work onsite up to two days per week as business needs require.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of telecommunications and structured cabling systems for commercial and data center projects.
  • Perform preliminary assessments, concept development, and detailed system design.
  • Coordinate with BIM designers and engineering teams to develop construction documents and engineering drawings.
  • Prepare, review, and modify Division 27 specifications and technical documentation.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate project requirements and verify field conditions.
  • Review technical documents, drawings, and project deliverables for quality and compliance.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, project managers, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Respond to RFIs, submittals, substitution requests, and other project-related inquiries.
  • Support project budgeting, scheduling, and risk management activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree or Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience designing or leading telecommunications structured cabling system projects.
  • Strong knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
  • Thorough understanding of NFPA 70 requirements as they relate to telecommunications structured cabling systems.
  • Familiarity with Navisworks.
  • Experience coordinating with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience responding to RFPs and supporting proposal efforts.
  • Experience developing project budgets and maintaining project schedules.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating project and organizational risks.
  • RCDD certification or the ability to obtain the credential within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing low-voltage systems, including:
    • Security systems
    • Audio/Visual (AV) systems
    • Wireless systems
  • Experience with life safety or fire alarm system design.
  • Electrical Engineering degree or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience installing telecommunications systems.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting telecommunications testing results.
  • Experience troubleshooting telecommunications installation issues.
