To thrive as a Remote .NET Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in C#, ASP.NET, and software development principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, version control systems (such as Git), and relevant Microsoft certifications is highly valuable. In these work from home contract jobs, you are given temporary projects for which your duties vary. A Remote .NET Developer Contract is a temporary work agreement where a software developer specializes in building applications using Microsoft's .NET framework while working remotely. These developers are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions, often collaborating with distributed teams via online communication tools. The contract nature means the job is for a specific duration or project, rather than a permanent position. Remote .NET developers must be proficient in C#, ASP.NET, and related technologies, and they often work on projects for clients or companies from anywhere in the world.

How do remote .NET Developer contractors typically collaborate with distributed teams to ensure project success?

As a remote .NET Developer contractor, effective collaboration is achieved through regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and the use of project management tools like Jira or Trello. Communication platforms such as Slack or Microsoft Teams are essential for staying connected with team members and stakeholders across different time zones. Contractors are often expected to proactively share updates, participate in code reviews, and follow established development workflows to ensure alignment and maintain code quality. Building strong relationships and being responsive are key to overcoming the challenges of remote work and contributing to successful project outcomes.

Job description

Description

Your role at GEI.
ย
GEI is seeking an experienced structural engineer to join our dams and water resources consulting practice.ย  Dams, reservoirs, hydroelectric developments, and other water resources facilities are crucial components of our nationโ€™s infrastructure, providing clean energy, water supply, and flood control.ย  GEI serves public and private clients operating some of the largest and most interesting water resources projects in the world.ย  Our roles include designing new facilities, upgrading existing developments, evaluating safety, and assessing risks.ย  As part of GEIโ€™s dams and water resources practice, you will work with the leading experts in dams and dam safety at one of the premier firms in the industry.
ย
This position can be filled in our Woburn or Franklin (MA), Bedford (NH), Portland (ME), or Ithaca (NY) offices, with an expectation of about three days a week in-office (i.e., about two days remote).ย  Dams in our clientsโ€™ portfolios are in some of the most spectacularly scenic parts of the country, including the Connecticut River Valley in Vermont and New Hampshire, the lakes of central Maine, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California.ย  Work will occasionally require the ability and willingness to hike moderate distances (5+ miles), traverse steep terrain, climb ladders, enter narrow galleries, and access remote sites by off-road vehicle and helicopter.
ย
Essential Responsibilities & Dutiesย
  • Serve as structural lead, and/or project/task manager.
  • Oversee and review designs developed by staff engineers. Mentor and promote technical development of staff engineers.
  • Analyze new and existing concrete gravity dams, arch dams, buttress dams, spillways, powerhouses, intake towers, penstocks, dam gates, and similar structures for stresses, stability, and performance under extreme loads.
  • Analyze and design other facilities as needed, including foundations, retaining walls, temporary works, and special structures.
  • Develop and evaluate alternatives for new facilities and upgrades to existing projects.
  • Complete detailed design calculations and prepare contract documents and technical specifications.
  • Inspect ongoing dam and water resources construction projects for conformance with design requirements.
  • Inspect existing projects as part of regulatory compliance programs (e.g., FERC Part 12D).
  • Participate in semi-quantitative risk analysis workshops.
  • Prepare formal written reports, give presentations, and participate in internal and client meetings.
  • Prepare scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
ย Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7 to 15+ yearsโ€™ experience in structural engineering related to dams and water resources structures.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
  • Experience with structural analysis software (SAP2000/STAAD/RISA/ANSYS, etc.) and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license.
  • Ability to travel on temporary assignments.
  • Willingness and ability to work in the field and in inclement weather.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience managing multi-discipline design projects.
  • Experience in analysis and design of hydraulic structures.
  • M.S. in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with Revit modeling or BIM.
  • Structural Engineer licensure.
