What are remote music therapy internships?

Remote music therapy internships are training opportunities for students or recent graduates in music therapy that are conducted virtually rather than in-person. Interns typically work with clients, participate in supervision, and complete assignments using online platforms such as video calls, digital resources, and telehealth tools. These internships offer flexibility and access to a broader range of clients and professionals, while still providing practical experience under the guidance of a certified music therapist. They are especially popular among students who cannot relocate or who need to balance other commitments. However, it's important to ensure that the internship meets accreditation and licensing requirements for your specific educational program or region.

What types of projects and client interactions can I expect during a remote music therapy internship?

During a remote music therapy internship, you will likely engage in a combination of virtual client sessions, program planning, and collaborative team meetings. Interns often assist in developing music-based interventions tailored to clients' needs, participate in telehealth sessions under supervision, and help document client progress. Collaboration with supervising music therapists and other interdisciplinary team members is common, providing opportunities to learn about different therapeutic approaches and receive feedback. Although remote, these internships foster strong communication skills and adaptability as you navigate technology and engage clients in a virtual format.
