Job description

Discourse Power, a speech and debate academy based in California, is seeking an online debate coach for the upcoming Fall and Spring seasons (2026-27). This is a year-round, fully remote opportunity with a competitive pay rate based on experience. Our mission is to empower students with the skills and confidence to make a positive impact on the world around them.

Responsibilities:

- Develop weekly lesson plans, curriculum planning, classroom drills, and practice sessions.

- Be able to coach Novice and Varsity teams and develop weekly lesson plans accordingly.

- Provide topic analysis and assist students with argument development, research, and case structuring.

- Cross-examination techniques, rebuttal techniques, advanced speech strategies, flowing, weighing voters, and persuasion skills tailored to various judging styles.

- Deliver constructive feedback to support student growth and confidence. Students' development is our top priority.

- Monitor student progress and recommend improvement plans.

Once or twice a week class. 14-week semester.

No traveling involved during the tournament.

Excellent pay rate starting at $25.00 per hour to $30.00 an hour (depending on experience).

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Strong in philosophy and LD debate.
  • Must have 3 to 4 years of experience in either coaching or competing in LD debate on a high school team—a strong competitive background in speech, debate, communication, or a related field.
  • Prior successful participation in Speech and Debate at the national level (NSDA, TOC, or national circuit competition). Experience working with students and strong classroom management skills.- Proficiency in both Traditional and Circuit debate styles.
  • A Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress). High school seniors with 3–4 years of relevant competitive experience are also encouraged to apply.
