The Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer focuses on creating and running simulations to predict system behaviors, often in engineering or manufacturing contexts. In contrast, the Remote Data Analyst interprets data to inform business decisions across various industries. While both roles require analytical skills and technical knowledge, their tools, applications, and industry focus differ significantly.

How does a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working remotely?

Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers frequently work with multidisciplinary teams, including software developers, project managers, and subject matter experts. Collaboration is typically facilitated through virtual meetings, shared simulation platforms, and cloud-based project management tools. Regular communication and thorough documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project goals and simulation requirements. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires proactive engagement to stay connected and effectively contribute to team-driven problem solving.

What are Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers?

Remote Modeling Simulation Engineers are professionals who use computer-based models and simulations to analyze, design, and optimize systems or products, often working from a location outside of a traditional office. They leverage specialized software to create virtual prototypes and run simulations, which helps in testing and improving designs without the need for physical experiments. These engineers collaborate with teams online, and their work is crucial in industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy, and manufacturing. Their remote setup allows companies to tap into a wider talent pool and offers professionals greater flexibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Modeling Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering or computer science, strong mathematical modeling skills, and experience with simulation methodologies. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and simulation software, along with relevant certifications such as Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), is often required. Exceptional problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial soft skills, especially when collaborating remotely with diverse teams. These skills ensure accurate model development, effective virtual teamwork, and the delivery of reliable simulation results for complex engineering challenges.

Job description

SkyGrid, a Wisk Company, exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, SkyGrid builds ground-based high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operations and airspace integration of highly automated and autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid also acts as a key operational nexus for advanced air mobility, integrating and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support seamless and efficient air traffic services.
SkyGrid is looking for a highly motivated and organized Simulation Engineer III to develop simulation capabilities to prototype and conceptually validate technology and services within the SkyGrid environment. This role will ensure effective alignment between the simulation team and other internal teams, manage customer requests involving simulation capabilities, and drive the integration of external simulation tools including those from Boeing and other partners. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical understanding of simulation frameworks and collaborative workflows. This role will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and while a hybrid workplace is preferred, it can be considered a fully remote role.
Performance Objectives:
  • Master the SkyGrid Simulation framework to support development of advanced Airspace Management services and features as part of the Technology Maturation Process within the first 3 months.
  • Deliver high-quality simulation artifacts through the R&D phase to ensure successful Technical Maturation Review and Gate 5 completion within the next 9-12 months.
  • Update simulation artifacts post Gate 5 through formal development phase of the program and support validation and certification of the Product and Services within the next 12-24 months.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop simulation capabilities for Product and Services within the SkyGrid environment.
  • Act as the focal for the integration of Simulation tools and resources derived from Boeing, Wisk, and external entities.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions when necessary to keep simulation projects on track.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive working environment within the simulation team.
  • Support continuous improvement of simulation processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Prepare and present technical updates to stakeholders, including internal leadership and external partners.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in simulation development, systems integration, or similar technical domains.
  • Strong understanding of simulation frameworks, tools, and architectures.
  • Experience integrating third-party simulation tools and APIs.
  • Experience in software coding (using Python, MATLAB, Simulink, or equivalent languages) to build and test system simulation models.
  • Experience in documenting simulation and design artifacts as a formal handover to the development team for implementation and deployment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting large-scale simulation demonstrations with third-party software and documenting associated test artifacts.
  • Experience developing simulation visualization tools.
  • Air Traffic Management/Safety critical systems development experience is desirable.
