Job description

Position Summary
Senior Reporting Power BI Developer
Department: Financial Operations
Reports to: Director of Data Analytics
Status: Full-time, exempt
Compensation: $105,000 - $135,000 per year based on performance and experience
The Senior Reporting Developer owns the data model and reporting infrastructure that the business runs on. This is a hands-on technical build role: the person in this seat designs and maintains the underlying model, governs how data flows into it, secures access, and ensures the reporting platform is accurate, performant, and scalable. The role is intentionally kept focused on the build so that day-to-day field questions and one-off requests are handled by the Reporting Analyst, allowing the Developer to protect the integrity and roadmap of the reporting environment. As the data environment evolves, including a planned move to source data from Google Cloud Platform and growing use of AI and machine learning in analytics, this role is expected to grow with it.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain the core data model and semantic layer that sources from IQMetrix, RQ, and related systems.
  • Own data security, access governance, and Microsoft Fabric capacity and storage for the reporting environment.
  • Build and optimize data integration and transformation processes to consolidate data from multiple sources into a single trusted model.
  • Develop, tune, and maintain reports and dashboards in Power BI (required core tool) against the model, ensuring fast load times and reliable refreshes.
  • Establish and enforce reporting standards, definitions, and version control so metrics are consistent across the business.
  • Validate data accuracy through reconciliation and automated checks before reports reach the field.
  • Partner with the Reporting Analyst to turn recurring business needs into durable, reusable reporting rather than one-off work.
  • Prepare for and integrate Google Cloud Platform as a data source as it comes online, extending the model to source from it.
  • Apply AI and machine learning approaches to reporting and analytics where they add value, and stay current as these capabilities expand.
  • Document the model, data sources, and transformation logic for auditability and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years in BI development, data engineering, or a related technical reporting role.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills; experience with dimensional / semantic modeling.
  • Hands-on expertise with Power BI (Power Query, DAX) is required; experience with Microsoft Fabric strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Azure data ecosystem preferred (Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Service run on Azure).
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery, or the ability to ramp on it quickly, as it will become a data source.
  • Exposure to AI / machine learning applied to analytics, or clear interest in developing it.
  • Experience with data governance, access control, and platform capacity management.
  • Retail, wireless, or multi-location operations experience a plus; familiarity with IQMetrix / RQ a strong plus.
Certifications
Power BI proficiency is required. The following certifications are preferred and can be pursued in role:
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300): preferred.
  • Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer: preferred, in view of the planned GCP data source.
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600): a plus.
Success in this role looks like
The model is trusted and stable, reports load quickly and refresh reliably, access is secure and well-governed, and the Developer's time stays on building durable capability rather than answering day-to-day requests.
