How much do remote metrology jobs pay per hour?
What is a remote metrology?
A Remote Metrology job involves performing precision measurements and calibrations from a remote location using advanced tools, software, and sensors. Professionals in this field ensure accuracy in manufacturing, research, and engineering processes by analyzing data and maintaining measurement systems. They may work with industries like aerospace, healthcare, and automotive to verify equipment and product compliance. Strong analytical skills, expertise in measurement systems, and proficiency with remote diagnostic tools are essential for this role.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote metrology, and why are they important?
To thrive in Remote Metrology, you need a background in precision measurement, mathematical analysis, and an understanding of quality control standards, often supported by a degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field. Experience with measurement instruments such as CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines), laser scanners, ISO/IEC certifications, and metrology software like PC-DMIS or Calypso is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills are essential soft skills in this position. These competencies ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficient collaboration in delivering precise measurement solutions from a remote setting.
What are some common challenges faced by remote metrology professionals, and how can they be addressed?
Remote Metrology professionals often face challenges related to troubleshooting technical issues without being on-site, ensuring measurement accuracy across different locations, and maintaining clear communication with diverse teams. To address these, it's important to be adept with remote diagnostic tools, document processes thoroughly, and establish strong virtual collaboration protocols with on-site staff. Proactive communication and ongoing training in the latest metrology technologies also help minimize errors and build confidence in remote measurement results. By developing a systematic approach to problem-solving and leveraging digital tools, Remote Metrology professionals can effectively overcome these challenges and deliver reliable outcomes.

Job description
As our Metrology Alignment Engineer, you'll be the person high-performance manufacturing and research teams call when equipment absolutely has to be dialed in — laser trackers, CMMs, autocollimators, and interferometers in hand, hunting down thermal drift and mechanical shift before they become tomorrow's downtime. This is a travel-based, Northeast-coverage role: you'll be on-site where the tools live, working shoulder-to-shoulder with design, mechanical, and systems engineering teams.
What You Will Do:- Perform alignment and calibration of highprecision equipment using laser trackers, CMMs, autocollimators, interferometers, and other metrology tools.
- Develop and execute metrology plans supporting installation, maintenance, and upgrades of tools and systems.
- Analyze measurement data to pinpoint alignment errors, mechanical shifts, or thermal expansion effects — and apply the corrective fix.
- Partner with design, mechanical, and systems engineering teams to bake alignment requirements into projects from day one.
- Document metrology procedures, alignment reports, and measurement uncertainty analyses.
- Provide technical support during tool installation, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain and improve metrology system accuracy through regular calibration and verification routines.
- Train junior staff and technicians on proper metrology and alignment procedures.
- Keep every task compliant with safety and quality standards. What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field — OR an Associate's degree in Metrology or Mechanical Engineering plus 2+ years of handson precision alignment experience.
- 2+ years of experience in precision alignment or metrology within a hightech environment.
- Handson proficiency with advanced metrology tools (FARO, API, Leica laser tracker, Renishaw systems).
- Solid grasp of GD&T, error budgeting, and tolerance analysis.
- Sharp problemsolving instincts and an eye for detail that doesn't quit.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Dependable, flexible, and comfortable with a travelheavy schedule.
- Familiarity with 3D software such as Spatial Analyzer, BuildIt, and PCDMIS.
- CAD experience.
- Able to read mechanical blueprints and apply them in both field and office settings.
- Comfortable in Microsoft Office. Why Triosim?
We're a company built to serve — and that starts with the people who keep our clients' most demanding systems running true. Join a team where precision is the standard, not the exception.
