Remote Meta Data Science involves advanced data modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis, often requiring programming skills and a strong technical background. Remote Data Analysts focus on interpreting data, creating reports, and visualizations to support business decisions. While both roles work remotely and require data handling skills, Meta Data Scientists typically engage in more complex modeling, whereas Data Analysts concentrate on data interpretation and presentation.

How does a remote Meta Data Science role typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite being off-site?

In a remote Meta Data Science position, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as product managers, engineers, and designers—is primarily facilitated through virtual communication tools like video conferencing, chat platforms, and collaborative project management software. Regular stand-ups, sprint meetings, and asynchronous updates help ensure alignment on project goals and timelines. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires proactive communication and documentation to maintain transparency and foster effective teamwork. Building relationships remotely may take extra effort, but companies like Meta provide structured onboarding and virtual community events to support team cohesion.

What is a Remote Meta Data Scientist?

A Remote Meta Data Scientist is a professional who works for Meta (formerly Facebook) in the field of data science, but does so from a remote location instead of a traditional office. They analyze large datasets, build predictive models, and provide insights to help Meta improve its products and user experience. Their work may involve machine learning, statistical analysis, and collaborating virtually with cross-functional teams. Remote Meta Data Scientists use tools such as Python, SQL, and data visualization software to solve complex business problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Meta Data Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Meta Data Scientist, you need strong analytical skills, expertise in statistics and machine learning, and a degree in a quantitative field such as computer science or mathematics. Proficiency with data science tools like Python, R, SQL, and platforms such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is typically required, along with experience using collaboration tools for remote work. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities are essential soft skills for remote collaboration and translating insights to stakeholders. These skills ensure you can independently deliver impactful data-driven solutions while effectively collaborating across distributed teams.

Job description

The Data Scientist supports data integration and modeling for a portfolio of customers, supporting adoption and high-impact use of the Epistemix software platform. This role contributes to profitable growth by driving customer satisfaction, accelerating time to insights, and accelerating our time to value for customers. Ultimately, your work supports customer satisfaction, customer retention, and revenue growth from existing customers.

About Epistemix

The most consequential decisions in public health, life sciences, insurance, and enterprise strategy share a common problem: they involve human behavior, network effects, and downstream effects that cannot be safely tested before action is taken. Traditional analytical techniques built on historical data were not built for this. Epistemix was.

We build simulation and data-driven modeling tools that let leaders visualize how strategies will unfold across populations and systems before they commit resources. By clarifying which variables drive outcomes, where leverage exists, and how they interact, we help organizations move from uncertainty to conviction. Getting these decisions right means faster interventions, better-allocated resources, and measurable improvements in human and economic outcomes. We exist to make that possible.

Our platform gives organizations access to realistic, high-resolution population data and the modeling infrastructure to run scenario planning at scale. Together, these capabilities let decision-makers stress-test strategies in a controlled environment before deploying them in the real world across healthcare, consumer industries, insurance, and government. We are approaching our Series B and actively building the team that will define what comes next.

Responsibilities

Support customers’ and colleagues’ efforts to use our platform to deliver data integration, visualizations, models and recommendations that create meaningful impact

  • Work with customer teams to understand their goals and help develop data integration, modeling, and visualization plans to support decision making

  • Collaborate with customer and internal teams to develop, test, and validate simulation models, ensuring their accuracy and relevance for healthcare use cases

  • Provide guidance for proposals on feasibility of scope and how to ensure impact

  • Contribute to customer onboarding experiences and content, helping to ensure customers quickly achieve their first successes with the platform

  • Engage with customer users to provide informal support, tips, and troubleshooting

  • Collaborate with premium support customers by integrating data and creating models, simulations, or visualizations. Support recommendation development and action plans

  • Participate in reviews with customers to document and improve measurable impact

  • Provide feedback to Product and Sales teams to align offerings with customer needs

  • Follow advancements in data science, machine learning, and healthcare analytics

Qualifications
  • Commitment to understanding customer needs and helping them achieve goals

  • Creative mindset with a passion for tackling challenging problems with data

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse users and internal teams

  • Strong communication skills: verbal, code, visualizations, and maps

  • Strong foundation in machine learning, data modeling, and predictive analytics

  • Understanding of key concepts of the healthcare industry required. Prior healthcare experience (broadly defined) very strongly preferred

  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities and customer needs

  • Proficiency in Python and associated data science technologies

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and/or GIS tools

  • Expertise in SQL or NoSQL databases preferred

  • 2-3 years prior experience as a Data Scientist, Analyst, or similar role, with demonstrated ability to solve complex data challenges. (Work in PhD program can count toward experience)

  • Masters or Ph.D in Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Economics, Public Health, Statistics, Mathematics, or similar quantitative field

  • Experience with more than one company size or business stage preferred

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
