Job description

The Role:

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our small but growing engineering team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable expertise in product development, data engineering, systems architecture and cloud infrastructure, with a particular focus on B2B solutions and an iterative, customer-centric approach. As a Staff Software Engineer you’ll lead feature-level implementation from scoping to delivery as either a solo IC or as lead engineer on a small pod of 2-3 engineers depending on the needs of the project. With the support of Product Managers, Designers, and Principal Engineers you’ll take PRDs, wireframes and technical design requirements for a feature-sized project, craft a project plan, set a timeline and refine requirements then follow through on implementation and delivery of that feature.

The Product:

Our platform helps home service businesses get more business and operate more efficiently simply by doing their top-tier work. The platform marries data about customers, work done, photos, reviews, surveys and business reputation to create compelling stories the business can use to prove to new clients that they are better than the competition. The product is primarily a MERN stack with Typescript and AWS. We put an emphasis on keeping the codebase evergreen and focused on best practices while balancing stability and ease of use for the development team.

The Interview Process:

Tired of the 10-round interview gauntlet? So are we. We have a simple, straightforward interview process that takes less than 4 hours of your time - total. Sick of Take-Home Assessments and Algorithm Exercises before you ever get the chance to talk with someone? Us too. Let's get to the point, and see what we can build together.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with stakeholders to define and refine technical requirements from a set of business goals or behavioral requirements.
  • Ability to turn technical requirements into an iterative development plan with clear goals and timelines and then lead a small team to successful, on-time delivery.
  • Demonstrate a mindset of operational excellence and full SDLC ownership - you’ll be responsible for ensuring not just feature delivery but a clear migration/rollout path, attention to observability tooling, metrics capture and monitoring and ownership of a successful launch after dev completion.
  • Attention to DX - track record of increasing team velocity, removing development bottlenecks and automating processes to ensure top-tier delivery
  • Conversational fluency in AWS best practices, enterprise software design patterns, and event-driven architecture
  • Strong coding experience required - you’ll be hands on with the product. Professional experience building products with TypeScript, React, NodeJS and MongoDB is preferred.
  • Practical application of AI developer tools in daily engineering tasks.
  • 8+ years experience building products in a startup environment is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred
