Job description

Consor is seeking a Lead Roadway Engineer to drive roadway design and technical delivery for our Draper, Utah office. This role will serve as a key technical leader, responsible for guiding roadway design efforts, mentoring staff, and partnering with project managers to deliver high-quality transportation projects across Utah and the Mountain West.

This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who has led roadway design teams, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is ready to help grow technical capabilities and project execution in a strategic office location.

Salary: $125,000 – $165,000+ (DOE) Compensation for candidates with significant experience beyond the minimum requirements may be considered above this range.


  • Lead roadway design efforts on transportation projects, ensuring high-quality technical delivery across all phases (planning through PS&E)
  • Serve as the technical lead for the Draper office, setting standards and guiding best practices for roadway design
  • Oversee and perform advanced design tasks including:
    • Horizontal and vertical alignments
    • Corridor and interchange geometrics
    • Typical sections and modeling
    • Maintenance of traffic / traffic control plans
  • Provide technical oversight and QA/QC for plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E)
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, supporting growth in design capabilities and project ownership
  • Partner with project managers to support scoping, budgeting, and delivery strategy
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, utilities)
  • Support pursuit efforts, including technical write-ups, scope development, and design approach strategies
  • Interface with clients (UDOT, municipalities, counties) as a trusted technical advisor
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and standards within the office

  • 10+ years of experience in roadway or transportation engineering
  • Proven experience leading roadway design teams or groups
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Utah preferred or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of roadway design standards (AASHTO, UDOT, local agency criteria)
  • Advanced proficiency with tools such as MicroStation / OpenRoads (Civil 3D a plus)
  • Experience delivering complex PS&E packages, including design-build or alternative delivery projects
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions internally and with clients

Preferred (not required):

  • Experience working with UDOT and local Utah agencies
  • Background supporting or leading design-build pursuits and delivery
  • PMP certification or experience managing scope/schedule at a task or project level
  • Experience building or growing a local design team or technical group
  • Strong mentorship mindset and interest in developing others

This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May occasionally be exposed to work environments that include exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements. While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
