Job description

PBS is looking for a certified coder to join our growing medical billing team

Summary of Duties:

Responsible for entering and / or coding patient medical claims into a billing system to generate claims to be sent to insurance and patients. Responsible for claim submission to insurance companies. Responsible for review of and assistance in fighting coding denials.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Reviews coding submitted by clients for correctness prior to entering claims into billing system.

· Prior to sending, reviews billing in system against provider documentation to ensure correctness.

· Prepares and submits clean claims to insurance companies.

· Processes and applies collected copayments to claims.

· Answers phone questions from patients, clients, insurance companies, and other sources.

· Participates in educational activities as requested.

· Attends staff meetings as scheduled.

· Maintains strictest confidentiality; follows all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED
AAPC Coding Certification

Required Skills/ Experience

· AAPC ICD-10 and CPT coding certification

· Knowledge of computer programs, especially Microsoft Office.

· Knowledge of business office procedures.

· Knowledge of medical billing and coding practices.

· Knowledge of payer guidelines and NCCI edits.

· Ability to use computer and basic office equipment

· Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.

· Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, teammates, clients and other individuals as required.

· Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.

· Must be well-organized and detail-oriented.
