Job description

STR's Analytics and Command & Control (AC2) Division designs, develops and deploys novel technologies to solve challenging national security problems. Our team consists of passionate and motivated engineers and scientists with degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, and data science. We use our expertise and creativity to take innovative ideas from conception to mature implementation to improve mission success of our customers.

The Decisions Systems Group in the AC2 Division builds algorithms and tools to enhance trust in AI systems and help humans make the best decisions possible. We create solutions that make a difference in mission planning, modeling and simulation, AI decision aids, and more. Our portfolio spans trusted AI, Command & Control (C2), graph-based reasoning, autonomous systems, and human-machine interfaces. Current applications include a simulation platform for training and testing AI autonomy solutions, evolutionary algorithms for resilient workflow optimization, evaluating the reliability and responsibility of autonomous systems, and language models enhanced with domain-specific simulations to accurately assess the feasibility of scientific claims.

The Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer at STR, you will support the design and implementation of flexible software solutions, collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams and provide high-impact, unique solutions for our customers' most important problems.

You will initially support system integration and testing for a mature mission planning solution transitioning to an active user community. Subsequent projects will be driven by the intersection of your interests with our expanding R&D portfolio.

This role allows for remote work in collaboration with STR's Woburn, MA and Arlington, VA offices, taking advantage of STR's flexible, hybrid work environment. The role will involve periodic travel, up to 20%.

Who You Are:

  • BS or MS or equivalent experience in computer science or other software development related field
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience (BS degree), or 1-2+ years (MS)
  • Fluent in Java and its ecosystem, including object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
  • Demonstrated experience writing maintainable, well documented code and APIs
  • Specific demonstrated experience in Linux and container-based software (e.g., Docker)
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance

Even Better:

  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience using Python
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt new languages, libraries, and technologiesย 
  • Experience in intelligence or military-related mission areas
  • Active security clearance

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $140,000.00 to $170,000

The salary range listed is based on external market data. Offers are based on factors, such as but not limited to, the candidate's experience, education, training, key skills/critical skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
