What is a remote market maker?

A Remote Market Maker is a financial professional or firm that provides buy and sell quotes for securities or assets electronically from a remote location, rather than on a physical trading floor. Their role is to ensure liquidity in markets by continuously offering to buy and sell at publicly quoted prices, helping to facilitate smooth and efficient trading. Remote market makers typically use advanced software and algorithms to analyze market data and make real-time decisions. This position is common in modern electronic and decentralized markets, including stock exchanges and cryptocurrency platforms.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote market maker?

To thrive as a Remote Market Maker, you need strong quantitative and analytical skills, a background in finance, mathematics, or economics, and ideally experience in trading or financial markets. Proficiency with trading platforms, algorithmic trading systems, and programming languages like Python or C++ is typically required, along with knowledge of risk management tools. Exceptional decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure effective market making, minimize risk, and enable swift, accurate decisions in dynamic trading conditions.

How does a remote market maker typically collaborate with trading teams and technology departments?

As a remote market maker, collaboration with trading teams and technology departments is crucial for success. Most communication occurs via secure chat platforms, video calls, and collaborative trading dashboards, allowing you to stay aligned with team strategies and market developments. You’ll work closely with traders to adjust pricing models and risk parameters, and frequently interact with developers to optimize trading algorithms and resolve technical issues. Maintaining clear, proactive communication is essential to ensure effective teamwork and rapid response to market changes, even while working remotely.

What is the difference between Remote Market Maker vs Remote Trader?

Traders primarily execute buy and sell orders, sometimes with less emphasis on market-making functions. While their roles overlap in trading environments, Market Makers are more involved in market stability, whereas Traders focus on asset performance. Understanding these differences helps job seekers identify the right role based on credentials and work environment.

How much do remote market makers get paid?

Remote market makers typically earn between $50,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, the markets they cover, and their trading volume. Compensation may also include performance-based bonuses and profit sharing, especially for those with strong analytical skills and access to trading platforms.

How to get a job as a remote market maker?

To become a remote market maker, candidates typically need a strong background in finance, trading, or related fields, along with proficiency in trading platforms and programming skills such as Python or C++. Gaining experience through internships or entry-level trading roles and obtaining relevant certifications like the Series 7 or Series 63 can improve prospects. Job description

About the Role

zerohash is looking for a VP - Head of Liquidity & Exchange Services to bring operating excellence and cross-functional coordination to manage the firm's digital asset liquidity and exchange services. We're looking for a senior leader to lead and scale this function.

This is a high-visibility, cross-functional leadership role reporting into executive leadership. You will own zerohash's end-to-end digital asset liquidity and exchange services operations and strategy, across our Central Limit Order Book (CLOB) and Request-for-Quote (RFQ) trading systems. This includes relationships with leading market makers / liquidity providers, stablecoin issuers, and the execution of a robust strategy for the firm's market-leading liquidity services. You'll work closely with Settlement & Trading Operations, Finance, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams, and will regularly present findings and recommendations to the executive team.

Candidates must be located within a 1-hour driving radius of one of our main office hubs (Chicago, NYC, UK/Amsterdam for EMEA).

Responsibilities
  • Liquidity Strategy Development: Design and implement strategies to attract and maintain deep global liquidity across both the CLOB and RFQ, including identifying key trading pair, developing incentive structures, and scaling liquidity services globally.
  • Liquidity Partner / Market Maker Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with high-volume liquidity partners, negotiating terms and ensuring they actively contribute to liquidity across various trading pairs, venues, and jurisdictions.
  • Liquidity Services Operations: Lead the operational setup and enhancements of liquidity strategy globally, including settlement optimization across venues and jurisdictions.
  • OTC Operations: manage end-to-end operations and execution of OTC trading, where applicable.
  • Stablecoin Issuer Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with leading stablecoin issuers.
  • Stablecoin Markets: Help develop deep markets for zerohash-issued stablecoins and/or tokenized assets, including end-to-end relationships with distribution partners.
  • New Asset Configuration and Listing: Manage the complete catalogue of assets listed for liquidity within zerohash liquidity systems, while managing the listing process and coordinating with Legal and Compliance, Operations, Product, and Finance teams.
  • Liquidity Monitoring and Analysis / Reporting: Continuously monitor market depth, order book quality, LP uptime, asset support, and trading volume across all venues. Develop recurring reporting (internal and external) to provide visibility to executive management and Platform partners.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential liquidity risks associated with market volatility, large order executions, and potential LP system outages.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze market data to identify trends and opportunities, generate reports on liquidity metrics, and present findings to senior management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all liquidity activities comply with relevant regulations and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements.
Requirements
  • 1215+ years of progressive experience in leading exchange / liquidity services, strategy, liquidity operations, or a related leadership role.
  • 58+ years experience in FinTech; direct experience in crypto / digital assets is required, preferably at a major crypto exchange. Banking / brokerage infrastructure experience is a strong plus.
  • Financial Market Experience: Proven track record in trading, market making, or liquidity management within traditional financial markets and cryptocurrencies/stablecoins.
  • A track record of building and scaling functions from scratch you've stood up teams and processes, not just operated within them.
  • Sharp analytical skills paired with genuine comfort in ambiguity; equally credible presenting to a board and rolling up your sleeves on a spreadsheet.
  • Experience driving AI or major technology adoption within an operating business, ideally at scale.
  • Strong track record in market maker / LP relationship management.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, with experience presenting to C-suite and board-level audiences.
  • Based in the United States; ability to travel to team hubs.
Benefits
  • Healthcare Insurance: zerohash covers roughly 100% of employee premiums as well as a portion of spouse/children (U.S. only)
  • Vision & Dental Insurance (U.S. only)
  • Chance to earn equity
  • Maternity & Paternity leave (after 6 months)
  • WeWork All Access Membership
  • WFH Yearly Stipend
  • L&D Yearly Stipend (after 6 months)
About zerohash

zerohash is the leading crypto and stablecoin infrastructure platform and the operating system for digital money, powering the next generation of financial services. Founded in 2017, zerohash enables banks, brokerages, fintechs, and payment companies to offer crypto trading, stablecoin payments, and tokenized assets without having to build or manage complex blockchain infrastructure on their own.
The zerohash platform supports three core pillars: Trade, Transact, and Tokenize. Through a single integration, customers can launch regulated crypto buy, sell, and custody services; enable 24/7 stablecoin-based funding, payouts, and settlement; and issue and manage tokenized assets with built-in compliance, risk controls, and reporting. By abstracting away technical, regulatory, and operational complexity, zerohash allows partners to treat digital assets as just another financial primitive: fast, programmable, and global.
zerohash is trusted by some of the world's most recognized financial and consumer brands, including Interactive Brokers, Morgan Stanley, Stripe, Franklin Templeton, BlackRock, DraftKings, Gusto, Worldpay, Kalshi, One Pay, among others. Today, zero infrastructure supports millions of end users across brokerage, wealth, payments, and marketplace platforms globally.
The company is deeply regulated and compliance-first, operating across the U.S. and internationally with licenses and approvals that allow partners to enter crypto and stablecoins with confidence. zerohash has become a trusted partner for enterprises seeking to modernize financial products while meeting the highest standards for security, risk management, and regulatory oversight.
To date, zerohash has raised over $280 million in funding from a mix of leading venture firms and strategic investors, including Morgan Stanley, Interactive Brokers, SoFi, Point72 Ventures, Bain Capital Crypto, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and more.
zerohash has been featured in top-tier media outlets such as Bloomberg, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Reuters, Forbes, and CoinDesk, and its leadership team regularly contributes to global conversations on the future of payments, investing, and financial infrastructure.
At zerohash, we're building the infrastructure that makes digital money work securely, compliantly, and at global scale.
