We're honored to have supported 10% of the Fortune 500 with their digital marketplace initiatives. Over 250 global brands like ABB, AB InBev, ACCO, Albertsons, American Red Cross, American Eagle Outfitters, US Army, US Agriculture Dept, (and many more) have entrusted their digital transformations to McFadyen. We're proud of our Great Place to Work certification.

The Opportunity

McFadyen Digital is looking for a Solution Architect to design the next generation of AI-powered eCommerce and marketplace platforms for our Fortune 500 clients — while also leading McFadyen's own internal AI initiative. This is a rare dual mandate: you'll architect scalable commerce and marketplace solutions for our clients, and you'll set the vision and roadmap for how McFadyen adopts and operationalizes AI across the business. If you love solving hard technical problems at the intersection of commerce, data, and artificial intelligence, this role is built for you.

Responsibilities

Top 5 Responsibilities

  1. Lead the design and execution of McFadyen's enterprise AI strategy — identifying, prioritizing, and championing high-impact AI initiatives across the organization and for our clients.
  2. Architect end-to-end eCommerce and marketplace solutions that embed AI-driven capabilities such as personalization, intelligent search, product recommendations, dynamic pricing, and fraud/anomaly detection.
  3. Serve as the primary technical advisor to clients on AI-enabled commerce architecture, translating business requirements into scalable, secure technical designs.
  4. Proven expertise as an Adobe Commerce (Magento) specialist, with a track record of architecting scalable, enterprise-grade eCommerce solutions on the platform.
  5. Own the presales process for prospective engagements — leading solutioning, effort estimation, and technical proposal development to win new business.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, pilot, and operationalize emerging AI/ML technologies — including LLMs, generative AI, and agentic frameworks — to enhance both McFadyen's service offerings and internal delivery capabilities.
  • Design solution architectures on platforms like Adobe Commerce, SFCC, SAP Hybris, commercetools, and Mirakl, integrating AI/ML models and data pipelines.
  • Produce solution design documents, integration specifications, and architecture diagrams for both client and internal initiatives.
  • Partner with sales and pre-sales teams to develop proposals, RFP/RFI responses, SOWs, and proof-of-concepts, including effort/level-of-effort estimation and pricing input.
  • Guide engineering and delivery teams on AI implementation best practices, including MLOps and responsible AI governance.
  • Champion data strategy and data architecture practices (data pipelines, data lakes, analytics) that underpin AI initiatives.
  • Stay current on AI/ML advancements and proactively evaluate their applicability to commerce and marketplace use cases.
  • Mentor architects and engineers across the organization on AI adoption and modern commerce architecture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and client stakeholders to keep McFadyen's AI roadmap aligned with business priorities.
Qualifications

Top 5 Qualifications

  1. 8+ years of experience in solution/technical architecture, with a strong focus on eCommerce or marketplace platforms.
  2. Proven, hands-on experience designing and deploying AI/ML solutions (recommendation engines, NLP, generative AI, LLMs) in production environments.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading or driving an organization's AI strategy or innovation initiative.
  4. Strong understanding of API-first, headless, and composable architectures, along with integration patterns (REST, GraphQL, event-driven).
  5. Solid presales experience, including solutioning, effort/level-of-effort estimation, proposal and SOW development, and RFP/RFI response for enterprise clients.

Additional Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in at least one major commerce platform (Adobe Commerce, SFCC, SAP Hybris, commercetools, Mirakl, or similar).
  • Track record of contributing to won deals through technical solutioning and estimation as part of a presales or pursuit team.
  • Experience with data engineering or data architecture (data pipelines, data warehousing, data lakes) is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud AI/ML platforms (AWS SageMaker, Azure AI, Google Vertex AI) and MLOps practices.
  • Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills; comfortable presenting AI strategy to executive stakeholders.
  • Experience in enterprise digital transformation programs.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Based in the United States, with the ability to collaborate across McFadyen's global teams (US, Brazil, India).
  • A career with thought leaders who literally wrote the book on Marketplace Best Practices.
  • A career in the fast-paced world of retail eCommerce, digital marketplaces, and platform businesses.
  • A career with first-movers who are deploying new business models and strategies worldwide.
  • A career in a flat management structure without a rigid hierarchy and bureaucracy.
  • A career in a culture that rewards creativity and innovation, risk-taking, and teamwork.
