Job description

This is a remote-working position, the ideal candidate will live within an easy driving distance of Philadelphia, Newark (NJ), Atlanta, or Chicago (Oโ€™Hare) airports. ย 

The Director of Capital Engineering is accountable for the engineering and delivery of capital investment projects at up to 15 Mativ sites, predominantly located in North America. Project types include maintenance replacements, automation and process improvements, and new product manufacturing lines. The Director interfaces with site engineering, safety, and plant leaders to understand problems/opportunities, and coaches/guides the project development, justification, execution, and post-completion evaluation business processes.ย 

Position Responsibilities:ย ย 

  • Facilitate theย prioritization of capital spending through theย global budgeting process, bringing aย deep understanding of theย sites and needs on the ground.ย 

  • Coach engineers in developing robust project plansย that alignย withย meaningful projectย objectives, payingย attention toย large (>ย $2M) and complexย (high levelsย of on-site integration) projects.ย ย 

  • Coach in the preparation ofย proposal documentsย and in the project alignment process.ย 

  • Promote a project metrics mindset, specificallyย identifyingย objective measures for project success in the project development phase.ย 

  • Accountable forย theย investmentย spending versusย theย plan.ย 

  • Make resource prioritization calls as necessary; communicateย scheduleย and timing tradeoffs.ย 

  • Develop and deploy project management bestย practices,ย mentor the project management process.ย 

  • Drive the identification andย validationย ofย lower-costย solutions.ย ย 

  • Identifyย and cultivateย third-partyย contractย resources asย scalableย capacity.ย 

  • Curate a strong relationship with Mativโ€™s insurance providersย through joint site visitsย and regular communications;ย Drive theย selectionย and completion of Loss Control initiatives.ย 

  • Mentor in technical and commercial best practices,ย identifyingย and validating equipment suppliers.ย 

  • Up toย 40% domesticย and international travelย 

  • Additionalย duties as assignedย 

Work Experience:ย ย 

  • A BS in Engineering isย required. MS preferred.ย ย 

  • 10ย yearsย ofย experience as an engineer andย project managerย specifying,ย preparing for,ย procuring,ย installing, and commissioning machineryย on behalf of a facility (receiving)ย or an OEM (delivery). Projects must have beenย at least $1M in size.ย 

  • Deep experience in at leastย oneย industrial goods manufacturingย processย isย required.ย e.g.ย polymer extrusionย (preferred), coating, paper-making,ย or automated assembly systems.ย 

Knowledge and Skills:ย ย 

  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical,ย and problem-solving skills.ย 

  • Skilledย inย describing complex concepts graphically.ย 

  • Skilled in extracting andย articulatingย functionalย requirementsย and performanceย metricsย 

  • Financial acumen applied to the evaluation of the financial benefits of investments.ย 

  • Excellent interaction, collaboration,ย and presentationย skills.ย 

  • Skilledย inย working in a matrix management environment.ย 

  • Familiar with ANSI B11 safety standards,ย civil and structural designย stamping requirements,ย electrical code requirements, OEEย calculation,ย mechanical and electrical design principles,ย and system modeling.ย
