Job description

As the largest nonprofit affordable housing provider in the nation, we build, preserve, and manage program-enriched housing across the country.

The Senior Loan Officer underwrites loan applications according to approved policies, prepares Credit Memos, and presents requests to Loan Review Committee for approval.  Closes loans and maintains borrower files.

This position is with Mercy Community Capital, a community development financial institution (CDFI) that is an affiliate of Mercy Housing.

Strong preference for candidates based in Denver, CO, open to remote candidates in other areas willing to travel to Denver as-needed. 

Pay: $110,000-135,000 annually, dependent on experience + sign-on bonus (5% of starting salary)

 Duties

  • Represent Mercy Community Capital to the public and effectively build relationship with customers, industry partners and investors.
  • Respond to requests from potential applications, manage customer expectations and explain lending parameters.
  • Review loan applications from prospective borrowers based upon approved underwriting policies.
  • Manage contacts and applicants in Salesforce to track and build lending pipeline.
  • Follow up with applicants, secure the necessary information to underwrite the loan, conduct site visits, if needed. Help potential borrowers successfully qualify for financing.
  • Negotiate loan structure.
  • Complete financial analysis and prepare credit memo and recommendation summary for approval members.
  • Manage the post-approval loan closing process from commitment through funding by reviewing and approving borrower due diligence, coordinating with legal counsel, title companies, and internal finance to confirm loan documentation and funding conditions are met.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience as an affordable housing lender or related experience in real estate, business, or community lending.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, real estate, or related field.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Spreadsheets skills to support structuring and pricing loan requests.
  • Work cooperatively and constructively with a wide variety of people, cross-functional teams, community-based organizations, banks, and lawyers.
  • Understanding of accounting principles; comprehend and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, and be adaptable to change.
