About the Role

This role owns PoP network architecture and interconnection, the hardware platform, and the PoP deployment process, with responsibilities shared across the team according to individual strengths. The role spans internet connectivity and BGP policy, hardware selection and lifecycle, datacenter management, and the staging, turn-up, and acceptance procedures executed with junior engineering staff.


What You'll Do

  • Design PoP network topology, including redundancy and resilience, and validate failover behavior through testing.
  • Manage internet transit providers: selection, port sizing, diversity planning, SLA (Service Level Agreement) tracking, and escalation.
  • Manage interconnection end to end: cross-connect ordering and lifecycle with colocation providers, IXP (Internet Exchange Point) participation, and peering coordination.
  • Define and maintain BGP policy: route filtering, communities, traffic engineering, and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) mitigation including blackholing.
  • Administer internet number resources: RIR (Regional Internet Registry) allocations, ASN (Autonomous System Number) records, IRR (Internet Routing Registry) objects, and RPKI/ROA (Resource Public Key Infrastructure / Route Origin Authorization).
  • Monitor bandwidth utilization, forecast capacity, and plan upgrades.
  • Maintain the hardware BoM (Bill of Materials): validated configurations, available options, and qualification of new platforms and components.
  • Maintain firmware baselines (system, management controller, network adapters) with staged rollout and rollback procedures.
  • Own hardware monitoring, maintenance, and hardware issue escalations from the Operations Engineering team.
  • Maintain hardware inventory accuracy: serial numbers, asset tags, locations, warranty status, spares levels, and RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) tracking.
  • Manage vendor and colocation relationships: quotes, contracts, lead times, EOL/EOS (End of Life / End of Sale) tracking, rack space, power budgets, and remote-hands procedures.
  • Own the PoP deployment process: staging plans, burn-in criteria, configuration and firmware baselining prior to shipment, turn-up procedures, and production acceptance.
  • Develop and maintain the acceptance test suite, with defined pass/fail criteria gating handover to operations.
  • Validate hardware and network configurations against approved standards prior to production. (Replace Linux with Kubia)
  • Provide daily technical direction, task assignment, and quality review for junior engineers performing staging, shipping, and turn-up work.
  • Identify and eliminate manual steps in the deployment process.


What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of production experience operating multi-homed BGP with route policy.
  • 5+ years of experience commissioning internet connectivity, including cross-connect ordering and provider coordination.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and testing failover at the link, device, and provider level.
  • 5+ years of experience delivering datacenter or site deployments from installation through production acceptance.
  • 5+ years of experience with server hardware lifecycle: qualification, firmware management, and fault diagnosis.
  • 5+ years of experience with network and infrastructure configuration automation.
  • Previous experience directing hands-on work performed by others (junior staff, contractors, or remote hands).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry networking certification such as CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), JNCIP (Juniper Networks Certified Professional), or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • RPKI and IRR administration experience.
  • Interconnection experience across multiple facilities or regions.
  • High-throughput packet processing on commodity hardware.
  • Vendor or reseller management, including quoting and purchasing workflows; international shipping and customs exposure.
  • Bulk hardware operations through management APIs (e.g., Redfish).
  • Per-site or per-unit-of-bandwidth cost modeling.
