A Remote Linux job involves managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux-based systems from a remote location. Professionals in these roles may work as system administrators, DevOps engineers, or cloud engineers, ensuring server uptime, security, and performance. Common tasks include configuring servers, automating processes, and deploying applications. These jobs require expertise in Linux command-line tools, scripting languages, and networking. Many companies hire remote Linux professionals to support cloud environments, web servers, and enterprise systems.
As a Remote Linux professional, your daily tasks may include server provisioning, managing user accounts, monitoring system health, deploying software updates, and troubleshooting network or application issues. You may also work on automation projects using scripting languages or configuration management tools to streamline system operations. Collaboration is often virtual, so you'll join regular meetings, coordinate with development or DevOps teams, and document processes or incidents thoroughly. Depending on your employer, you may participate in on-call rotations or respond to urgent incidents to ensure uptime and security. This variety of responsibilities provides both technical challenges and opportunities for skill development in a dynamic environment.
To thrive in a Remote Linux role, you need a strong understanding of Linux system administration, shell scripting, networking concepts, and troubleshooting skills, often supported by a degree in computer science or relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+ or RHCSA. Proficiency with configuration management tools (like Ansible or Puppet), remote monitoring solutions, and cloud platforms is commonly required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities are key soft skills that help remote professionals excel. These skills ensure reliable system performance, efficient collaboration with distributed teams, and successful problem resolution in remote environments.

Tidal Basin Practice
Michael Baker International's Tidal Basin practice delivers integrated emergency management, public program management, and technology-enabled resilience solutions that help governments, communities, and critical infrastructure partners prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate disasters and disruptions. The Tidal Basin practice brings together the combined strengths of Tidal Basin Group, Michael Baker International, and MLU Services to deliver the full resilience lifecycle under one roof, aligning planning, funding and compliance, engineering and design, program delivery, contingency operations and logistics, and technology tools that improve visibility and decision-making. Backed by decades of experience managing complex federally funded disaster and non-disaster programs, the team provides advisory support, technical assistance, grant program management, risk and financial compliance, customer service, and customized software solutions that help clients move from strategy to execution faster and build stronger, more resilient communities.
What We're Looking For
Michael Baker International is seeking a System Administrator to join our Tidal Basin practice supporting Phoenix OneCase (P1C), our configurable grants and case-management platform that powers HUD CDBG-DR disaster recovery programs and broader government grant initiatives. This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the United States, with occasional travel expected for client site visits and business development demo support.
In this role, you will own platform configuration across two complementary workstreams: standing up and maintaining production grant programs for live clients, and rapidly assembling proof-of-concept and demo environments that showcase platform capabilities to prospective clients. You will work closely with the Product Owner, business analysts, and program teams to translate real-world program requirements into working configurations - no custom code required. This role is the natural stepping stone toward a Configuration Lead position as the team and platform continue to grow, making it an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented platform configurator who is ready to deepen their craft and expand their impact.
No sponsorship is provided for this role; all candidates must be eligible to work for any employer in the United States without restrictions indefinitely.
