Job description

Responsibilities

Sentinel is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer for one of our strategic partners. This administrator is responsible to install, administer, and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware ESXi, HPE infrastructure, and Azure cloud environments that host critical Oracle and enterprise applications. This role is responsible for system availability, performance tuning, automation, patching, monitoring, security, disaster recovery, and infrastructure upgrades across data centers and manufacturing locations. The engineer will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, manage capacity and backups, support change management processes, document standards, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Success requires strong problem-solving skills, proactive system management, and collaboration with internal teams and vendors.

This is a Direct Hire hybrid role based in downtown Chicago, IL

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise Linux and virtualized infrastructure, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, and hybrid on-premises/cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat Satellite for patching, upgrades, system lifecycle management, and maintaining highly available production environments.
  • Strong automation and scripting skills with experience in Ansible, CI/CD processes, and automating system administration tasks such as provisioning, patching, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of HPE server infrastructure, SAN/storage technologies, and backup/recovery solutions (Veeam, Avamar, or similar), with a focus on availability, performance, and disaster recovery.
  • Solid understanding of Linux operating systems, networking, and security, including TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, HTTP/S, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure hardening.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting mission-critical applications and infrastructure in a 24/7 production environment, with Oracle, Docker, or Kubernetes experience considered a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to document processes, manage change controls, and drive continuous infrastructure improvements.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Must demonstrate a "can-do" attitude

Compensation Range: 

$82,000-$110,000/annually
